Chapter Thirty-Three: Tragedy Strikes
“Damn bitch! You killed so many of my brothers.” Old Yellow Teeth opened his mouth full of yellowed teeth, and with anger, the fat on his face jiggled with each word he spoke.
He stretched out his thick, fat finger and pointed at Zhang Min. “Brothers, that woman doesn’t seem to have any abilities! Capture her alive.”
The others immediately moved toward Zhang Min.
As they advanced, they occasionally dodged Pei Siying’s ice needles.
They were ordinary people, yes, but their advantage was in numbers.
Zhang Min, having expelled the poison from Lin Youwei’s body, had completely exhausted her powers and was now no different from a normal person.
No, she was actually weaker than an ordinary person.
Despite having struggled and trained for three years in her previous life, mastering various skills, it was still a struggle for her to stand once her powers were depleted. She could only try to hide in less conspicuous places.
But who would have thought the leader, that pig, spotted her right away.
Damn it, she clenched her fists.
She looked at the man approaching her with a flash of disgust on her face.
The moment his hand reached for her, she swiftly dodged to the side, then quickly crouched down and picked up a stick from the ground, its tip sharp-looking.
Holding the stick in one hand, a fierce glint flashed in her eyes as she moved with lightning speed.
“Pfft!” With force, she stabbed the stick hard into the man’s right eye.
The man cried out, staggering back two steps and falling onto his comrades.
Holding his eye, his face twisted in pain, he pointed at Zhang Min with a trembling finger and said, “Damn bitch!”
Because of his missing teeth, as soon as he spoke, saliva flew out like an uncontrollable child.
A look of disdain flashed in Zhang Min’s eyes before she quickly scanned around, trying to find cover.
But at that moment, she felt like a canary trapped in a cage, with nowhere to hide, just waiting to be caught.
Pei Siying’s hands spun swiftly as she pointed at Zhang Min, shouting, “Shield!”
In an instant, a burst of blue light exploded among the crowd, enveloping Zhang Min. The light gradually solidified into an ice shield.
Those about to pounce on Zhang Min were instantly repelled by the shield, flying backward like a basketball being slammed away with a “bang.”
Pei Siying felt as if all the energy within her had been drained in an instant, like water being sucked dry.
Her legs grew weak, and her vision darkened.
So tired... so very tired.
A sharp stinging sensation came from her nose. She touched her philtrum and saw a bright red streak.
She was bleeding from the nose... Just as she was about to collapse, Yu Niao Niao quickly scanned the next attacker’s head and rushed over to support her.
---
Old Yellow Teeth seized the moment and sneered lecherously, “Hahaha, brothers, this little bitch is done for.”
“Get her!”
“As soon as we catch her, after the boss Zhou and I have our fun—”
“—she’s all yours.”
“Alright!” The brothers laughed uproariously, brandishing tools and closing in on Pei Siying with murderous intent.
Pei Siying tried to use her powers again but found her energy completely depleted; no matter how hard she forced it, nothing responded.
Unwilling to give up, she stood up and ordered Yu Niao Niao, who was supporting her, “Transfer your power to me.”
“Like Li Luyan did.”
Yu Niao Niao’s lips turned pale as she shook her head weakly. “Siying, I’ve run out of power too.”
“Ran out? How is that possible?” Normally, Yu Niao Niao’s auxiliary powers shouldn’t have been exhausted just from helping Pink Hair rinse her face.
Pei Siying noticed the pallor on Yu Niao Niao’s face and the beads of cold sweat on her forehead.
Yu Niao Niao raised her machete. “This machete is too heavy. To make it as easy to use as a fruit knife, I converted my power into physical strength.”
Hearing this, Pei Siying’s face darkened as she glanced at the encircling group.
The world spun, and she was soon pinned beneath a thin, dark-skinned man. She tried to get up but he held her down firmly.
He yanked her hair and pressed her head against the ground repeatedly.
Her vision darkened with every blow.
Her head throbbed...
So much pain...
“Skinny monkey, stop it.”
“If you kill her, we won’t have an excuse.”
That was the last voice she heard before passing out. She vowed that once her energy recovered, she wouldn’t spare a single one of them.
Not one...
When she woke, her head throbbed fiercely. That bastard actually dared to slam her head into the ground.
Her gaze darkened. After struggling a few times, she realized she was tied to a wooden chair.
“Don’t struggle, sister.”
A woman’s voice—clean and clear.
---
Only then did she lift her head and notice a pale, delicate-looking girl standing before her.
The girl appeared no older than fifteen or sixteen, still very innocent.
She heard the girl say, “Sister, you’re finally awake.”
She nodded slightly.
The girl continued, “Don’t struggle. The leader here is a power user.”
“As long as you let him have his way once, you’ll be safe in this apocalypse.”
Such words from a little girl made Pei Siying’s expression turn puzzled. The girl shrugged and said something shocking:
“Don’t be too scared... I was given to him by my brother. Tonight, I’m with you.”
Pei Siying’s lips twitched; she wanted to speak but her throat burned unbearably.
A fiery pain.
“Sister, are you hungry?” Pei Siying’s gaze dropped, noticing the small, dry piece of bread in the girl’s hand.
Hungry? She nodded. The girl immediately stuffed the bread into her mouth.
Her face twisted oddly—salty? The girl must have squeezed it for a long time.
Under the girl’s expectant and reluctant gaze, she fought back nausea, closed her eyes, chewed quickly, and swallowed.
Now her mouth was even drier.
“Cough... cough...” Pei Siying struggled to make a sound, hoarse and unpleasant, but none of that mattered. She just wanted water to soothe her throat.
The girl looked puzzled, as if she didn’t understand, tilting her head to stare at Pei Siying.
Pei Siying opened her mouth, still with bread not fully swallowed. She realized she must look ridiculous in the girl’s eyes.
This time, the girl seemed to understand. She whispered, “Wait here, sister. I’ll go get it for you.”
After a while, the girl returned, opening a fresh bottle of mineral water.
Pei Siying looked up, opening her mouth wide in an almost comical manner, waiting for the girl to feed her water.
The girl stood on tiptoe, pouring water into Pei Siying’s mouth as if filling a funnel.
After a few tries, Pei Siying could finally speak, though her voice remained hoarse.
