Old Zhou suddenly rose to his feet. The energy that had just been completely drained from his body filled him once more. Flames flickered in his eyes, and his entire body began to burn.

He intended to destroy himself and take them down with him.

The heat wave was so powerful that it blasted Zhang Min away. She discovered that every spot touched by the wave had been scorched.

Old Zhou opened his mouth and laughed. Even the two rows of teeth inside had turned into flames.

His hands moved swiftly through a series of seals, and before long, the head of a fire dragon took shape between his palms. His laughter grew even more unrestrained, as though Li Luyan’s death would come in the very next moment.

Suddenly, he thrust both hands high into the air.

In an instant, a massive fire dragon burst from his hands and shot straight toward Li Luyan’s face.

Li Luyan’s eyes widened. If she absorbed this mass of flames into her spatial dimension, wouldn’t the vegetable garden she had just finished planting be blown to pieces?

But to Old Zhou, that look was simply fear. He planted his hands on his hips and laughed wildly.

“Hahaha, you stinking bitch! Go to hell!”

His legs had already begun to disappear.

Yet he seemed not to care in the slightest. All he wanted was to see Li Luyan die.

Li Luyan tried to evade the enormous fire dragon, but it seemed to have eyes of its own and relentlessly pursued her.

“Just stand there and await your death. This is a tracking fire dragon.”

Those were Old Zhou’s final words. The moment he finished speaking, his mouth vanished completely.

Only his eyes remained. Naturally, it would not be long before his entire body disappeared as well.

Even Zhang Min sucked in a breath. Li Luyan had saved her, after all, but why did she keep dodging? Didn’t she possess a devouring ability? Why wasn’t she using it?

Zhang Min felt as though she were watching a three-dimensional movie. That fire dragon was simply too spectacular.

Following the principle that the eunuch was more anxious than the emperor, Zhang Min looked even more frantic than Li Luyan, as though she were the one being chased.

She had struggled through the apocalypse for so many years. Although she had long since lost her humanity and despised the weak, she still admired the strong.

Li Luyan sighed. Fine. If that batch of vegetables was destroyed, then so be it. She could always plant another one. Who could have known that this wretched fire dragon would be so enormous?

Hopefully, it would not affect the supplies in her spatial dimension. Fortunately, she had placed the supplies along the edge; otherwise, they would have been ruined as well.

If only she had planted the vegetables along the edge too. What a mess.

Li Luyan stood where she was and opened her arms, preparing to embrace the fire dragon.

Not a chance!

The fire dragon rushed toward her at tremendous speed, then suddenly seemed to freeze and came to a halt right in front of her.

Zhang Min had already seen through everything. Was Li Luyan about to “devour” it?

The eyes that were all that remained of Old Zhou widened in shock. If he still had a mouth, he would certainly have demanded an explanation from Li Luyan—or perhaps clung to her leg and begged for mercy. Unfortunately, his mouth had vanished, and now his eyes were about to disappear too.

Snap!

Just like a scene from a movie, the air suddenly twisted. The blazing red fire dragon vanished in an instant, leaving behind only the lingering heat as proof that it had ever existed.

Zhang Min exhaled shakily, still shaken to her core.

Li Luyan walked over to Zhang Min, who had collapsed onto the ground, and extended a hand.

“Get up.”

Her voice was cool and pleasant, like a clear mountain spring.

Zhang Min took her hand and rose with her help. Old Zhou’s heat wave had been overwhelmingly powerful, and her arms and every other place it had touched were badly burned.

She drew a deep breath and tried to use her ability to heal herself, but then seemed to remember that her power had already been completely exhausted.

Li Luyan did not look at her again. Instead, she walked toward the small partition where Pei Siying was being held.

She had just lifted the curtain and had not yet stepped inside when a small knife shot straight toward her face. However, its owner was far too slow, and the blow lacked any real strength.

Li Luyan caught the knife lightly between two fingers.

Its owner seemed to be terrified and fell backward onto the ground.

“You... you...”

Only then did Li Luyan get a clear look at her. A little girl? She appeared severely malnourished.

The girl trembled as she asked, “What did you do to my brother?”

Her brother? Was she talking about Old Zhou?

Li Luyan raised an eyebrow.

“He probably turned to ash. There isn’t even a body left.”

The girl’s face instantly went deathly pale.

“You... you...”

“Hey, Stutterer, I don’t feel like listening to you stammer right now.” Li Luyan frowned. To be honest, if the girl had not been an ordinary person who had refrained from charging forward to throw away her life like the others, Li Luyan would have finished her off already.

She walked around the girl and quickly used the fruit knife in her hand to cut through the ropes binding Pei Siying.

But the girl seemed to have been provoked in some unforgivable way. She lunged forward and clung to Li Luyan’s hand.

“You... you can’t release her, or my brother will...”

The moment Pei Siying was freed, she lifted the girl off Li Luyan’s hand.

“Listen carefully, Zhao Meina. Your brother is dead.”

“Now, either get lost and fend for yourself...”

“...or I’ll send you to join him.”

Pei Siying stretched her limbs, then pulled a small knife from inside her boot and waved it threateningly at Zhao Meina.

Zhao Meina seemed genuinely frightened. She bit her lower lip with her upper teeth, her eyes rimmed red, as though she might burst into tears at any moment.

All right, enough.

Li Luyan covered her forehead with one hand. She hated children crying more than anything in the world, and this girl looked only thirteen or fourteen. She was far too thin.

“Fine. You can come with me,” Li Luyan said. It was rare for her to play the savior, but the girl truly was pitiful.

“How old are you?” she asked.

“Sixteen.”

Li Luyan widened her eyes in rare astonishment. Sixteen? Was that even possible? The girl looked no older than thirteen or fourteen.

Who would believe she was sixteen...

Li Luyan made a quick estimate with her hand. The girl was barely one and a half meters tall. Did she never eat?

“Why did you kill my brother?” the Stutterer asked. “If you killed him, we’ll all starve to death.”

“He worked so hard to make friends with ability users...”

“Listen, Stutterer. Don’t mention your brother again.” Li Luyan walked ahead without looking back. “Besides, your brother deserved to die. I told you, if you stay with me, you won’t starve.”

The moment she stepped out of the tent, she saw Yu Yue and Yu Niaoniao “disciplining” Pockmark.

“I’m dying! Niaoniao, look—he wet himself!”

“Hahaha, what an idiot.”

Talk about a brutal welcome.

Li Luyan was speechless. Those two really were made for each other.

“Hey, Sister Yan!” Yu Yue saw Li Luyan emerge and immediately withdrew his vines. “When did you go inside?”

“Oh! We seem to have forgotten to rescue Minmin and the others.” Yu Niaoniao picked up the thread.

Behind them, Zhang Min and Pei Siying wore the same expression as Li Luyan.

“We’re out,” they said.

“Wonderful... Then let’s leave together,” Yu Yue suggested first, having completely forgotten how Pei Siying had previously wanted to kill Lin Youwei.

What a pair of useless teammates, Li Luyan thought.

She had too many secrets, while Zhang Min was far too calculating. Li Luyan disliked being around people like that. It always felt as though she might be seen through at any moment.
