Chapter 57: Military Intervention
Michael's face turned pale as he listened to Roger's words.
What kind of people did he despise the most? It was precisely these old foxes who were adept at exploiting rules.
And what annoyed him the most was that he had just been recorded by Lin Xinghai, leaving behind a fatal piece of evidence.
His expression flickered uncertainly before he finally said, "Whether you want to file a lawsuit is your business, but trespassing in the police station is an undeniable fact."
"Men, take them up for interrogation, and then make them sign and press their fingerprints."
The police station was Michael's territory after all. At his command, several police officers immediately stepped forward.
However, facing the mercenary squad led by Roger, they were much more polite than usual, even using courteous language.
"Captain Roger?" a mercenary asked softly.
Roger certainly understood what they meant. He figured that with a single word from him, these people would dare to tear the police station apart alongside him.
However, obviously, that was completely unnecessary. Now that Lin Xinghai's safety was confirmed and they held the initiative, the subsequent matters should be handled step by step.
Otherwise, adding another charge of wrecking the police station would probably double their fines at the very least.
"Let's go to the interrogation room and wait for the commander and the others to handle it," Roger ultimately told the men beside him.
With that, he followed the police officers toward the neighboring interrogation room.
Watching Roger and the others being led away, Michael also turned and left with a gloomy expression.
Now, he truly regretted his actions. He should never have been blinded by greed and listened to Huai Feifu in the first place.
"The other party is just a newly joined mercenary and won't be valued by his mercenary squad."
"The Wild Wolf Mercenary Group has already applied pressure, so the Sky-Rending Mercenary Group will definitely have no time to care. We just need to fabricate an airtight case as quickly as possible."
What kind of utter nonsense was all that!
Lin Xinghai had only been in the police station for a total of ten minutes when the opposing mercenary squad showed up. Was this what they called not being valued?
Moreover, judging by Roger's attitude, he knew very well that this matter was far from over.
As for the Wild Wolf Mercenary Group that Huai Feifu had mentioned, Michael could no longer count on them, nor did he dare to.
For him right now, two things were of the utmost importance: first, to destroy any evidence unfavorable to him as much as possible; second, to contact the Morgan Consortium immediately.
Whenever he had stirred up trouble in the past, these steps were standard operating procedures.
Michael had no doubt about the Morgan Consortium's ability to clean up his messes. However, getting the consortium to help wasn't without a price; at the very least, all the wealth he had embezzled that month would likely have to be used as favors.
Yet, he didn't realize the extent to which this matter had already escalated. A mere police precinct director like him had even become a pawn in a high-level game.
Just as Michael returned to his office, he heard a commotion outside, followed by a flurry of heavy footsteps heading straight toward his office.
"Huh?" He frowned slightly, but a wave of secret relief soon washed over him. In his mind, it must be those mercenaries growing impatient with the interrogation and causing a scene.
The bigger a scene they caused, the easier it would be for him to absolve himself.
Thinking of this, he put down his wrist-mounted computer and opened the door to see what was going on.
However, what greeted his eyes was a squad of fully armed soldiers.
The commanding officer strode up to him in two or three steps, slapping handcuffs on him before he even had time to react.
"What is the meaning of this? You people..."
Before he could finish, the officer interrupted him, "Director Michael, we have received reports that you are suspected of more than a dozen crimes, including corruption, bribery, shielding criminals, and framing the innocent. We are taking you back for questioning now. Also, this is the arrest warrant."
Looking at the arrest warrant, Michael felt an instant wave of dizziness. At this stage, no matter how foolish he was, he knew something was terribly wrong.
The military should not have intervened this quickly, and the charges listed on the arrest warrant were utterly terrifying. This was clearly an attempt to crush him completely!
"I've been wronged! I've been framed! And I am a man of the Morgan Consortium, you can't just arrest me indiscriminately like this!" Michael immediately shouted.
"Save your explanations for the military tribunal! And don't you worry, when the trial begins, we will notify members of the Morgan Consortium to attend as spectators," the officer said coldly.
Hearing this, Michael's body stiffened instantly.
Letting members of the Morgan Consortium attend as spectators during the trial? This was sheer, unadulterated fearlessness!
His mind was a complete mess as his body was pushed forward by instinct. He saw a cold and stunning beauty standing at the end of the corridor.
"Officer Zhang, thank you for stepping in so promptly this time," the cold beauty said in expressionless gratitude.
"We should be the ones thanking you for providing the evidence that allowed us to root out such a massive parasite within the sanctuary," Zhang Yue replied.
Hearing their conversation, Michael's small eyes stared fixedly at the woman. "Who the hell are you?"
However, the cold and stunning beauty didn't even spare him a glance, turning around and walking away.
At this moment, Roger walked out of the interrogation room and called out to the beauty, "Deputy Commander, Ah-Xing is in the interrogation room over here."
Michael felt a loud buzzing in his head. "I really just offended a rookie mercenary?"
...
When Lin Xinghai walked out of the interrogation room, the police station had undergone a dramatic upheaval.
The place had been entirely taken over by the military, and the police officers were being rounded up and interrogated like criminals.
At the same time, he caught sight of Fang Tianhe and the others right away.
"Commander, thank you all," Lin Xinghai said with heartfelt gratitude.
Without the Sky-Rending Mercenary Group backing him up, even with the evidence in his hands, it wouldn't have been so easy to get away scot-free, let alone throw the other party behind bars.
"We're all brothers in the group, why be so polite? Besides, our mercenary squad also benefited from this incident," Fang Tianhe said with a smile.
"Oh, what do you mean?" Lin Xinghai asked, full of curiosity.
Fang Tianhe had nothing to hide, so he immediately recounted Shen Han's deduction and the matter concerning the senior leader.
"Originally, handling this matter would have been a bit troublesome, but I never expected that you actually recorded your conversation with him. I handed the recording over, and the senior leader directly ordered the military to take action."
"The military is currently searching for members of the Axe Gang to gather evidence. This time, Michael is going to shed a layer of skin even if he survives, not to mention his position as precinct director is completely out of the question. By eradicating this tumor within the sanctuary, we can be considered to have rendered a meritorious service this time," Fang Tianhe said.
Only then did Lin Xinghai nod in sudden enlightenment.
Afterwards, Lin Xinghai seriously made his official statement. Bidding farewell to the members of the Sky-Rending Mercenary Group, he finally left the police station alongside Liu Miaomiao and the others.
