Lu Li took the large, unpalatable bird with a contamination level of 34%; the small bird at 18%; and the most disastrously roasted one at 19%. Seeing the test results, Lu Li winced in pain. The entire large bird with a 19% contamination level was almost completely charred, leaving only a fist-sized piece of decent meat.

She tentatively tore off a small piece and popped it into her mouth, chewing slowly.

It tasted sour and foul, with a hint of spoilage, but was barely edible.

After finishing the edible parts of the two birds, Lu Li carried the detector over to the pile of birds. Among dozens of birds, only one had a contamination level of 20%; the rest were above 30%.

She burned all the inedible birds and scattered the ashes into the cesspit.

Passing by the riverbank, Lu Li didn’t forget to poke Jiang Linyi with a stick to check for any reaction. When he remained unresponsive, she felt relieved and returned to the house.

After all that fuss, as soon as she relaxed, exhaustion hit her, and Lu Li collapsed onto the brand-new bed, quickly drifting off to sleep.

In the middle of the night, she was awakened by the system’s wailing. Gazing at the pitch-black room, Lu Li lazily got up, half-heartedly drew the curtains—and the entire corpse instantly snapped awake.

The entire window was coated in bird droppings, a dense layer of yellow-brown filth completely blocking the cold moonlight.

“Can’t you do something about this?” Lu Li pointed at the window, interrupting the panel’s clamoring.

[Villain’s health is rapidly declining. Host must perform rescue immediately. Completing this task will earn a bird repellent spray.]

“Hmph!” Lu Li shook her head at the panel. “Forget it. It’s just bird poop through glass—what’s so scary about that? It’s not even as disgusting as Jiang Linyi!”

She trotted downstairs, grabbed the panel, held it above her head, then cautiously opened the door and looked around—no sign of the crow.

She carelessly tossed the panel on the ground and strolled to the riverbank.

Jiang Linyi hung limply from a branch, swaying with the flowing water. His face was pale, his body thin, clothes soaked through like a fragile white flower—pitiful and delicate.

Lu Li poked his arm with the stick, then looked challengingly at the panel.

[Host, name your price!]

“A fully renovated house!”

“Impossible! Host, check the system mall yourself—just one piece of furniture costs over a thousand points! A fully renovated house is out of the question!”

“Hmph, then I won’t save him.”

“Then let this world collapse along with him!”

Jiang Linyi’s eyelashes fluttered lightly. In a daze, he opened his eyes to see a blurry figure standing before him.

He struggled to lift his hand to grab her, but she dodged, leaving his grasp empty.

His mind was chaotic, unable to think. His dry, cracked lips parted with a faint voice: “Save me!”

Lu Li leaned in and sniffed—no foul smell anymore.

Seeing the unyielding panel, a sly glint flashed in Lu Li’s eyes as she reached out and pulled Jiang Linyi from the water.

Feeling his burning forehead, she glanced worriedly at the panel. “System, your villain has a fever! If he gets too sick, will there even be any tasks left?”

[Host may only renovate one bedroom! Plus an additional 50 points!]

“Two bedrooms! One for me, one for the villain!”

“Deal! But host must ensure the villain does not fall into any crisis caused by you again. You cannot deliberately create tasks to cheat rewards!”

Lu Li sheepishly touched her nose; she wasn’t doing it on purpose.

“You renovate it to my satisfaction, then I’ll save him!”

Back home, she pulled up the panel, selected a luxurious bed and a fine wardrobe, set them up hastily, and prepared to finish.

Immediately, she regretted it—no matter how refined, a bedroom only needs a few essentials!

Seeing the stark contrast between the two rooms, Lu Li felt a biting itch for mischief and suspected the system was playing tricks.

Her own bedroom needed only a bed and wardrobe, while the villain’s room boasted sofas, rugs, and various small furnishings.

[Host, do you think the villain would feel comfortable living in such a room? Is there anything else that needs improvement?]

“The windows need to be sprayed with bird repellent, after all, crows love to poop!”

Watching the panel happily spray the windows, Lu Li smirked and went outside to fetch the villain.

“System, exchange for a large bathtub!”

“Okay, host. Deducted 60 points, balance 40.”

Lu Li dropped the shivering man on the floor and went to the kitchen to boil water.

She poured pot after pot of hot water into the tub. When it seemed full enough, Lu Li tossed Jiang Linyi inside.

She dug out his shampoo and squeezed it onto his head, then rubbed vigorously.

His body gradually warmed; Jiang Linyi weakly opened his eyes and finally saw the zombie who had been tormenting him to the brink of death.

Before this, upon seeing her, he would have killed her on the spot, but now... Jiang Linyi looked at Lu Li thoughtfully.

He had some awareness but still instinctively craved human flesh—though perhaps disgusted by his own filth?

Feeling his burning gaze, Lu Li lowered her eyes.

If you’re awake, wash yourself!

Remembering she was no longer human, Lu Li quickly shut her mouth, lifted the man’s hand, and pressed it to his head, signaling him to wash.

As soon as she withdrew, the man’s arm went limp.

“Cough... water... drink... cough,” Jiang Linyi’s voice was hoarse and weak.

Lu Li, patient as ever, poured some of the leftover bathwater for him.

“Drink up, it’s still warm!”

But Jiang Linyi didn’t reach for the cup close at hand; instead, his gaze burned into Lu Li.

His expression was complex but showed no craving for flesh. He had dissected this body many times but never studied the living one.

He had never seen another zombie, but records never mentioned any with self-awareness. Unable to withstand the calamity, their brains died along with their bodies.

Could it be the crystal core’s influence? But his crystal core was no different from other zombies’!

As Jiang Linyi pondered, Lu Li grew impatient holding the cup.

She pinched his mouth and forced the water down.

“Refuse to drink the toast water, drink the punishment water instead. Bad habit!”

The warm water soothed his throat slightly; Jiang Linyi’s lashes fluttered weakly. “Thank you for saving me.”

Lu Li jumped in shock—the villain who had caused her endless torment was actually thanking her!

Meeting his intense gaze, she felt prickling discomfort all over and quickly covered his eyes with her hands, then grabbed his hand to scrub his head.

Sensing her meaning, Jiang Linyi relaxed, and Lu Li let go, preparing to leave—only to hear gurgling bubbles.

The 60-point bathtub was extra large; without Lu Li’s support, Jiang Linyi completely submerged.

Lu Li skeptically prodded him. Was he drowning?

She grabbed his collar and gave his reddened cheeks two slaps.

Jiang Linyi’s eyes squeezed shut, cheeks swollen, and the slap made him spit out a mouthful of water.

Fine, I am his babysitter.

Lu Li helplessly rested his head on the tub’s edge, scooped water with the cup he’d just drunk from, and poured it over his head. Most of the foam went into his eyes.

“OMG! Sorry, I’ve never taken care of anyone before—my technique is a bit rusty!”

She hurriedly rinsed the foam from his eyes. Jiang Linyi still showed no reaction.

Seeing this, Lu Li washed him thoroughly, determined not to let even a speck of bird droppings cross her doorstep!
