Wu Chang silently circled behind Randy and whispered, “This is a matter of biology. I’ll explain it to you after we take him down.”

Faced with the fiercely charging Wolf, Randy had no time to ponder and immediately swung his greatsword at him.

Wolf’s attacks were so fast that even Wu Chang couldn’t see them clearly, but Randy, an ordinary man, parried them with ease.

While maneuvering through the fight, he even managed to raise his shotgun single-handedly and fired several holes in Wolf’s head.

The exorcism formation combined with the unconscious spell array Randy formed, along with his orc-like formidable physical gifts, quickly gave him the upper hand.

If nothing went wrong, it wouldn’t be long before Randy would put on a show of tearing the boss apart with his bare hands.

Wu Chang sat at a distance, eating some stir-fried beans snagged from the cafeteria, applauding softly.

“Impressive, truly impressive.”

No wonder the Serenity Sect infiltrated so many undercover agents but dared not act rashly against Randy; their ancestors must have been ruthless enough to gouge out the eyeballs of ancient evil gods.

As the battle escalated and spread across the entire first-floor hall, Wu Chang checked his level and wisely retreated into the shadows to avoid accidental harm.

Before leaving, he tossed Wolf an encouraging glance. Wolf nodded subtly, approving of Wu Chang’s action in drawing Randy’s attention.

He intended to give Randy a look too before departing, but Randy’s eyes were bloodshot and he didn’t notice.

Wu Chang had reason to suspect that some berserker bloodline had mixed into Randy’s body. Once the fight began, Randy quickly slipped into a berserk state—his reactions sharp, attacks lethal, utterly fearless.

In this frenzied state, Randy switched effortlessly between various weapons: swift sword, shotgun, and golden crossbow bolts.

Seizing an opening as Wolf’s guard was wide open, Randy drew his shotgun, charging straight through the middle and blasting away half of Wolf’s human half.

Then, stepping on the stairs, he leapt high, swung his sword upward, severing Wolf’s two mutated insect limbs. Mid-air, he rolled, slung the shotgun on his back, pulled off the golden bow crossbow, and fired two silver bolts straight into Wolf’s eyes, pinning his head to the wall.

Wolf’s vitality surpassed that of ordinary grunts; even with the exorcism bolts lodged in his brain, he didn’t die instantly.

With brute force, he tore the bolts from the wall, arrows still embedded in his eye sockets. In a tone of bittersweet consolation, he said to Randy:

“Randy, it’s been so long, and you’re still this strong—strong enough to make me wonder who the real monster is between us.”

Wolf’s words seemed to carry a strange power, instantly snapping Randy out of his berserk rage.

Now calm, Randy fell into inexplicable reveries and murmured like dreaming:

“I hear many voices… your voices are familiar. Do we know each other?”

“Of course. You and I are close friends,” Wolf coaxed in a peculiar tone.

While Randy was lost in thought, unseen shadows revealed Wolf’s bloated worm-like body cracking open to expose a pulsating crimson new form inside, like a heart. The peeling flesh fibers were thick, resembling a cocoon of flesh and blood.

This was bad—the boss was entering phase two. Our damage dealers were still dazed. What now? Waiting online, very anxious.

There was no outside assistance in this dungeon; he had no choice but to step up himself.

Transforming into the urgent king, Wu Chang leapt from the second-floor shadows straight at Wolf.

He wasn’t about to let Wolf complete the phase-transition cutscene and emerge unscathed from his cocoon.

Wolf sensed Wu Chang’s pounce but remained still—his two insect limbs had just been severed by Randy and hadn’t regrown yet; besides, he didn’t consider a mere worm a serious threat.

His anger at the offense overtook any sense of danger.

With a snarl, he threw a terrifying glare, screaming, “How dare you!”

The mental pressure from a furious B-rank dungeon boss could kill an ordinary person instantly. Yet Wu Chang was enveloped by an indomitable spirit, fearless, and shouted back with skill:

“Man!”

Thanks to the Manba Iron Elbow skill’s correction, when Wu Chang was two meters from Wolf’s face, his elbow auto-magnetized upward and smashed solidly into Wolf’s face.

Not only did it drive the two exorcism bolts further in, but it also distorted Wolf’s already twisted visage into a grotesque abstraction.

Being a B-rank dungeon boss, the Manba Iron Elbow didn’t inflict heavy damage on Wolf, but the accompanying negative status effects were troublesome enough to force him to abandon his attempts to manipulate Randy.

Seizing the moment while Randy regained clarity, Wu Chang activated the special skill “Exorcism” on the golden glowing crossbow bolts and shouted:

“Catch!”

Randy understood immediately, snatching the exorcism bolt midair, swiftly reloading, and firing at Wolf.

The final bolt shot forth like a golden lightning bolt accompanied by a deafening blast, piercing Wolf’s forehead.

There seemed to be a hidden linkage among the three bolts; the last one fired activated the “Exorcism” state in the other two.

Bathed in golden light, Wolf screamed sharply as his giant cocooning insect body was boiled away by the radiance, bursting open along the crack, green bubbling blood spilling everywhere.

With no insect body to support him, Wolf’s mutilated human form collapsed. Summoning his last strength, he raised his head and said with bitter refusal:

“The sacrifice is about to begin, the gods are destined to descend—this is fate, unstoppable. Today is not the end, but only the beginning!”

With that, he breathed his last.

Wu Chang spat contemptuously at Wolf. Dying and still playing the enigmatic mystic—deservedly bursting.

After neutralizing the greatest threat, Wu Chang and Randy slumped to the ground, gazing upward through the shattered roof of the sanatorium at the clearing clouds and star-studded night sky.

Randy removed a ring bearing the Anderson family crest and casually tossed it to Wu Chang, saying:

“Thanks to you, I was able to foil the Serenity Church’s conspiracy. As the ruler of Whitestone Town, I still have some cleanup to do. Take this ring to town and trade it for a horse. Go back and report everything to His Majesty. I’ll join you shortly.”

The moment Wu Chang caught the ring, a prompt appeared before his eyes.

“Player has completed Main Quest One: Leave Moonlight Sanatorium. Player may choose to end the dungeon and exit the current dimension outside of combat.”

“Player has completed Main Quest Two: Explore the secrets within Moonlight Sanatorium. All main quests completed. Upon countdown completion, player will be forcibly transported out of the dungeon dimension.”

“Maximum remaining time in current dungeon: one hour.”

Having completed the quests, Wu Chang did not rush to leave. He pulled out a golden pocket watch found under a bed in Kingston and glanced at the time, then asked Randy:

“Director Randy, before I go, I have a few questions to discuss.”

“Go ahead,” Randy replied.

“Assuming the myths and legends are true, do you think the evil god is a true deity?” Wu Chang asked casually.

“If everything is true, then I believe so,” Randy answered calmly.

Wu Chang checked the time again and asked, “What do you think defines a god?”

Randy smiled and replied, “You should ask a priest of the church. If I had to say, it’s probably possessing absolute power to destroy everything and infinite omniscient wisdom.”

“So you think the evil god also has these two traits?” Wu Chang’s tone grew a bit provocative.

Randy shrugged, “Who knows? Maybe when you and I meet the evil god, we’ll understand if it's really a deity. By the way, you’ve been looking at your watch since earlier—is something wrong?”

With a snap, Wu Chang closed the golden pocket watch and said seriously, “I don’t think the evil god possesses those traits.”

Randy laughed and asked, “Why not?”

Wu Chang took out the king’s emblem in his left hand and the arcane emblem in his right, flashing a radiant smile.

“Because you have no idea what I’m going to do next, Lord Leyman.”
