Watching Eugene walk away, Gavin glanced at Old Burt, who seemed to be doing fine, and headed downstairs, saying, "Wait for me. Damn it, I hope she's not a zombie!"

As he finished speaking, Gavin reached Eugene's side and shouted over to Old Burt, "Old Burt, is your boat still working?"

"Working, of course it's working! But what's this about a woman without clothes and zombies? What do you mean no clothes—wait, what zombies?"

"Let old Mac explain it to you!"

With that final remark, Gavin rushed out the back door of the mansion with Eugene, passing through the enclosed small courtyard built over the lake, and arrived at the pier where two small boats were moored.

One was a small wooden fishing boat rowed by hand, and the other was a motorboat. Gavin naturally leaped onto the motorboat.

Inside the mansion, seeing Gavin and Eugene abruptly vanish, Madison's Adam's apple bobbed as he couldn't help taking a couple of steps toward the stairs.

He didn't mean anything by it; he just wanted to broaden his horizons.

Noticing Madison's movement, Old Burt's eyes rolled, and he quickly steadied himself against the stair railing, coughing. "Ahem! I really didn't expect Gavin and the redhead to be so unreliable. Good thing my down-to-earth black brother has my back!"

"Say, you're Madison, right? I'm Albert. I love watching you play ball. Bella and I are both huge fans of yours, man!"

"For real?"

Madison cast a suspicious glance at Old Burt; he always felt something wasn't quite right.

Old Burt emphasized emphatically to Madison, "Of course it's for real, young man! Look at how affectionate Bella is toward you. Come on, Bella, do a roll for your idol~"

At Old Burt's command, Bella gave a cheerful roll, while Madison widened his mouth in a grin and said, "You're sure that was affection just now? Her affection felt like she wanted to eat me alive, but her fur really is smooth. You want water, right?"

With those words, Madison went off to the first floor with a grin to fetch some water.

Who said the southern states like Texas weren't warm to us black brothers?

Just look at this.

Today was yet another day Madison brought honor to the black community~

Meanwhile, out on the lake.

After Gavin boarded the boat, Eugene jumped into the stern, pulled the engine cord to start it, and gripped the joystick to steer the boat toward the woman.

Gavin picked up a pair of binoculars and vigilantly scanned the woman's movements.

After moving forward about four hundred meters, Gavin lowered the binoculars and confirmed, "It's a living person. Thank goodness. Damn it, I was really worried that was a swimming zombie!"

Hearing this, Eugene held the joystick and retorted with a huff, "You have times when you're scared? You didn't look scared at all when you were speeding through high winds—I damn near pissed my pants!"

"Ha, that's different. Speed up, let's get over there."

With a laugh, Gavin urged Eugene to step on the gas, and the motorboat roared toward the woman.

At the same time, the woman drifting on the lake seemed to notice the boat as well.

Seen from a distance, she turned around in the water, floated sideways for a moment, and swam toward the boat with one hand.

About a minute and a half later, Eugene slowed the engine, bringing the boat gently alongside the woman.

By now, the woman was flailing wildly like a madman, using every ounce of her strength, her body bobbing up and down in the water.

"Help... blub, blub... help me... blub, blub... save me!"

Accompanied by the woman's hoarse and faint cries for help, Gavin braced his foot against the side of the boat and reached out, grabbing her struggling forearm.

"Need a hand? People who fall in the water are always heavy."

Eugene stood up and asked Gavin, who simply shook his head with a smile.

Putting muscle into his shoulders, back, and arms all at once, Gavin yanked the woman straight out of the water just as if he were pulling a carrot from the ground.

"Whoa, badass! I thought she just wasn't wearing a bra, but she doesn't even have swimming trunks or socks on~"

Eugene whistled jokingly. The woman instinctively glared at Eugene, then turned to Gavin, shivering violently.

"It's... it's too freezing... there are zombies... at this resort. I'm going to sue them... c-c-c..."

Before she could finish her sentence, her teeth started chattering uncontrollably. Instinctively glancing down at his own clothes, Gavin turned back to Eugene and said, "Eugene, stop staring and throw her a jacket."

"What? Why me? Don't you think it's pretty cold right now?"

Eugene retorted with annoyance, but ultimately took off his blue denim jacket and leaned over to drape it around the woman.

Clutching the jacket tightly around herself as if it were a lifeline, she continued her teeth-chattering complaint to Eugene, "Thanks, but... c-c-c... is that the same look you give your mom, you redheaded bastard?"

"Stop whining. I'm not the one who told you to take your clothes off. Me helping you put on half a jacket is already an act of supreme benevolence~"

Eugene tossed back a cheeky reply before looking back at Gavin.

Gavin turned his attention back to the woman and said, "Cut the banter. Although this might not be the best time to bring it up, I need you to tell me about these zombies you mentioned!"

"O-kay... c-c-c... okay!"

The woman nodded, and Eugene walked back to the boat engine to keep it idling.

Meanwhile, the woman looked at Gavin and stammered, "I came here camping... with my classmates, and we rented... c-c-c... a yacht from this resort!"

"We spent the whole afternoon playing on the yacht and slept inside it at night. Who would've thought that after just one night, my classmates all turned into zombies!"

"Trust me, they were really... c-c-c... the kind of zombies from that Brad Pitt movie."

"My boyfriend and I woke up, and the moment we stepped out of the bedroom, we saw zombies lunging right at us. We have to call the police... wait, Gavin? Fuck, Gavin? Are you really Gavin?!"

In the middle of her sentence, the woman suddenly stared at the upper half of Gavin's face in astonishment.

At that moment, the woman's freeze-nipped, pale-blue face managed to muster a trace of blood.

"God... c-c-c... how could I possibly see Gavin here? You're the King of Cowboys, the Crown of Texas!"

"Can I give you a hug? I... c-c-c... oh God, I'm so excited. Both my partner and I were huge fans of yours..."

With that, the woman instinctively opened her arms where she sat, trying to thrust her freezing body into Gavin's embrace.

Seeing this, Gavin irritably pressed down on the woman's shoulders and rolled his eyes. "You can still recognize me even with a mask on? That's unfortunate. As for your partner, I'm afraid I've just lost yet another true fan."

"As for a hug, forget it. You're soaking wet. Just tell me about the situation with the zombies!"

With those words, Gavin glanced down at the woman's face.

She looked like your standard American college girl: chestnut hair, soft features, an average build, a youthful appearance, a healthy vibe, no real belly fat, and a few light freckles sprinkled across her face.

Was she drop-dead gorgeous? Not really, but she definitely wasn't ugly—youth has its privileges, after all.

Glancing at the woman's shivering form, Gavin ultimately reached out, pulled the jacket draped over her shoulders down in front of her chest, and helped her cover her chest and stomach.

Pressing the jacket against her chest, the woman shivered as she told Gavin, "Right... c-c-c... you're right, I should talk about the zombies first. It was unbelievable!"

"Oh God, they... they ran so fast. The moment my boyfriend and I rushed out of the bedroom, they tackled him."

"You wouldn't believe how I managed to run. As they were tearing into my boyfriend, I grabbed onto the deck railing along the corridor, literally stepped on top of the zombies to climb up, and jumped straight into the water to escape them!"

"I swear, I really wanted to save him, but I was so scared. Sob... c-c-c."

"Is that so?"

With that, Gavin pressed on, asking her, "After you jumped into the water, what did the zombies do? Did they jump in after you?"

"No! They all sank straight down, leaving just a massive trail of bubbles!"

The woman answered hastily.

Hearing this, Gavin finally let out a relieved breath.

It was pretty much what he had deduced: zombies shouldn't know how to swim. Since zombies were constantly moving and roaring, once they fell into water, they'd likely exhaust all the air in their lungs within a few moments.

Gavin didn't think zombies could drown, but zombies that didn't know how to store air and only knew how to scream madly would probably only float to the surface once they had bloated and rotted underwater.

His mood instantly improved. At least he wouldn't have to watch a massive horde of zombies swimming all the way from Dallas down the Trinity River straight into the Chambers Creek Reservoir!

Of course, what he might see by then would be a massive horde of bloated, rotting zombies floating on the lake...
