Chapter 35: Public Alliance, A Global Sensation!

The video itself was exceedingly brief.
It showed only a group of soldiers transporting the dead eye worms and gathering them together, while a reporter provided a short narration.
In essence, with the support of its allies, the Eastern Nation had completed a thorough purge of all eye worms within its territory and established an effective defensive line along its borders.
At the same time, it called upon residents who had already evacuated to return home, assuring them that it was now safe to do so.
It was merely a domestic news report, not a broadcast intended for the entire world.
Even so, the news spread with astonishing speed.
Nearly two days had passed since disasters had simultaneously erupted into the open across the world.
With human attempts at controlling information gone, all kinds of related reports began surging forth under intense public scrutiny.
Yet almost all of them were bad news.
Each of the three known meteorite crises had brought about enormous loss of life, and none showed any hope of being resolved in the short term. All anyone could see was a future in which the situation continued to deteriorate.
Even the Western State, reputed to possess the strongest military force on the homeworld, could only retreat step by step before those creatures suspected to be zombies.
The zombies were far too fast.
Ordinary bullets could not kill them at all.
Even when one was completely blown apart, leaving behind nothing but a lump of flesh, it would rapidly grow tentacles and begin crawling frantically.
Those horrifying images spread across the internet without the slightest attempt at concealment.
More and more people began making all kinds of preparations for the apocalypse.
Many people overseas took food and provisions into their basements, then sealed themselves in completely.
Others constantly attempted to flee the cities, heading for the countryside or even more remote wilderness.
Countless people cried out in despair that the end of the world had arrived!
And amid this increasingly anxious atmosphere, someone—or rather, some nation—had announced that it had eliminated one of the monsters.
How could that fail to cause a sensation?
“Over the past seven hours, this video has been viewed at least ten billion times worldwide. More than a billion overseas users have bypassed the internet blockade and flooded into our domestic networks to search for related information.” As Shen Yu reviewed the briefing materials, Ji Mingshu added from the side, “I compiled online information from all over the world. People are focused on essentially the same things: determining whether the report is genuine and asking who the ‘allies’ mentioned by the Eastern Nation are.”
“Setting aside the reactions of ordinary people, the governments of various nations must be unable to sit still by now.”
Shen Yu turned to the back of the document, where it contained a great deal of intelligence that ordinary citizens had no way of accessing.
The liaison from the Meteorite Crisis Management Department had not been speaking politely when he said that all intelligence privileges had been unlocked for Shen Yu.

Some information did not even require him to ask. It was delivered directly to him.
It could be said that Ji Mingshu’s status and position had changed drastically.
“That is indeed the case. However, the Eastern Nation’s plan is to release the information publicly and simultaneously, giving the people of the world confidence while also using public sentiment in various countries to accelerate the formation of an alliance.” Ji Mingshu spoke softly. “The second step should begin soon.”
The atmosphere throughout the world was already beginning to descend into chaos. Some small nations had even announced their dissolution. Certain matters could no longer be concealed, and the people of the world urgently needed a shot of courage to strengthen their faith in civilization and thereby preserve order.
Shen Yu read through the specific details and nodded slightly.
“Leave these matters to the professionals. I only hope to learn the circumstances surrounding the other two monsters as soon as possible.”
That was right. This was what Shen Yu cared about most.
For the catastrophe facing human civilization, eliminating the eye worms was merely the first step on a journey of ten thousand miles.
Every type of monster was capable of bringing about an apocalyptic-level threat.
To be frank, Shen Yu was under considerable pressure.
So much so that he had little thought to spare for other questions of competing interests.
To him, the gray mist alone represented a benefit greater than everything else combined.
But he did not want to think about such matters. Other people would.
Why, after so much time had passed since the disaster began, had the world still failed to form a truly effective global alliance?
The answer was nothing more than a matter of interests.
The creation of a global alliance would inevitably involve the distribution of benefits, as well as conflicts and disputes.
To push the process forward quickly, one either had to reveal a crisis that outweighed existing interests, or offer benefits that surpassed anything available in the past.
Fortunately, the former existed naturally in the apocalypse, while the latter had emerged after Shen Yu made contact with the Shen Yus of other worlds.
Although conflicts and disagreements within civilization would remain unavoidable, the tide of events should soon begin to take shape.
There was no need to worry about the small number of people who opposed that tide. They could not stir up any real disturbance.
Instead, they would be crushed effortlessly beneath its advance.
A little over twenty minutes later, the Eastern Nation once again addressed the entire world, casting out a bombshell of historic proportions.
This time, there was only a single image.
It showed Interstellar Shen Yu and a representative of the Eastern Nation shaking hands after signing a mutual-assistance treaty.
Clear, full-color, 8K, lossless quality.

In an instant, this could no longer be described simply as a sensation. It was a colossal wave that swept across the internet of the entire world.
Never before had any image spread to every corner of the global internet within a matter of minutes.
Mobile phones, computers, virtually every internet-connected device, every website, every media outlet, and countless individuals all began circulating it frantically.
Even Shen Yu’s phone began ringing and vibrating without pause.
Shen Yu glanced briefly at the dense mass of comments appearing one after another.
Everyone was venting their emotions in one way or another.
“A real alien ally! Holy crap!”
“Good heavens, with that outfit and standing beside a national leader of this caliber, he looks fake no matter how you look at it.”
“I guarantee its authenticity with my eighteen years of experience in image editing. This picture couldn’t possibly be more real!”
“Is this really an official announcement?”
“It was posted publicly by the official account of the Meteorite Crisis Management Department!”
“Has the world finally become the way it exists in our fantasies?!”
“Am I the only one wondering whether the apocalypse is still coming? Did I stockpile all that food for nothing?”
“I was still hesitating over whether I should really go home. No need to hesitate now. I’m going home!”
“What about the spaceship? I want to see the spaceship!”
“Have they already signed an alliance treaty? Are we about to immigrate to another planet?”
“...”
Shen Yu only skimmed through the comments. In summary, they were filled with shock, delight, and all kinds of speculation and fantasies about the future.
He found almost no voices of doubt.
Not that there were none, but they were exceedingly rare.
After all, the video released several hours earlier had already laid the necessary groundwork.
