Chapter 42: The Allies Arrive!

That was precisely what Shen Yu had come to understand more deeply whenever he tried to approach each problem and choice with as much rationality as possible.
Even with the gray mist and his incarnations from other worlds, it was still difficult for him to save everyone.
The cruelty and threat of the apocalypse would always remain.
Amid the tangled demands of the greater good, morality, reason, emotion, and countless other feelings and ideals, he had to find the balance that suited him best.
Once the Northern Alliance representative had communicated with the others and arranged everything, Shen Yu did not waste any more time. Taking the used tortoise shell with him, he vanished directly into the gray mist.
After witnessing that moment with his own eyes, the Northern Alliance representative finally seemed to release the tension that had kept his nerves taut. He let out a long breath and collapsed onto the sofa.
He had done everything he could.
All that remained was to pray.
At that moment, however, Qi Shichang spoke.
“Everyone, you have all seen how dire the situation is. I believe we can no longer afford to delay. We must immediately establish an effective disaster-response agency. The Global Meteorite Crisis Management Department should be founded at once!”
The representatives of the other two great powers exchanged glances, then nodded heavily.
In truth, the various nations had begun discussions as soon as the crisis was first discovered.
On the one hand, the severity of the crisis had not yet become sufficiently apparent. On the other, conflicts of interest were difficult to resolve.
Everyone wanted to claim a greater say in the matter.
But things were different now.
The worsening crisis, the emergence of the Multidimensional Doomsday Civilization Mutual Aid Association, and Shen Yu’s influence had all become powerful catalysts.
That was also one of the purposes behind the arrival of the two representatives and the delegations accompanying them.
It would surely not be long before the crisis of this day itself became another driving force.
Still, none of this required Shen Yu’s personal attention. Ji Mingshu, acting as his representative, would participate in the process in depth.
By then, Shen Yu had already appeared inside a Northern Alliance “safe house.”
After obtaining the gray-mist space, Shen Yu had understood the uniqueness of his situation and had therefore always attached great importance to his security.
He had made extensive preparations, many of them with the aid of the gray mist.
The safe houses scattered throughout the world were one such measure.
New identification documents, and even entirely new appearances, had been prepared within those safe houses.

Of course, none of that was necessary anymore. Shen Yu could now appear openly anywhere in the world.
At that moment, sirens already surrounded the apartment building. The city’s entire police force had been mobilized with astonishing speed, clearing the roads so that the helicopter sent to receive Shen Yu could land directly in the middle of the street.
“Mr. Shen Yu, I am the liaison officer from the Northern Alliance Crisis Management Department. These are my credentials and identity-verification code.” A man in a black suit appeared at the apartment door, introducing himself as he produced various documents. “I have received emergency orders to deliver you safely to your destination in the shortest possible time.”
The man had no idea who this oriental-looking figure before him really was.
Nor did he understand why such an enormous operation had been arranged.
But in the next instant, his mouth fell open.
Two clouds of gray mist suddenly appeared beside Shen Yu, and two figures emerged simultaneously.
One of them was unmistakably the futuristic man from the photograph that had spread throughout the world after appearing in the East.
Good heavens!
The liaison officer was a battle-hardened agent, but at that moment his eyes widened, and he could not utter a single word.
Shen Yu merely raised an eyebrow and said to the two men beside him, “You arrived a little early.”
“No problem. We happened to learn more about the situation on the way here.” Martial Arts Shen Yu spoke as his gaze settled on the helicopter that had landed in the street below.
He then opened the window. In the next instant, his figure stretched into a blur, and he leapt straight from the dozen-or-so-meter-high building into the helicopter.
He even waved to the other two.
“Let’s go.”
Interstellar Shen Yu reached out and took hold of the liaison officer, then simply flew down with him.
He, too, was equipped with an antigravity system.
A dense wave of screams immediately rose from outside.
Countless onlookers stared wide-eyed as they watched the futuristic warrior, clad in his exaggerated armor, float down through the air.
They all recognized him. That photograph had spread across the entire world with explosive speed.
Interstellar Shen Yu had even gained quite a number of fanatical admirers.
Especially in the Western Federation and the Northern Alliance.
If a large number of personnel had not been deployed to maintain order, chaos would already have broken out.
Even so, once Shen Yu had entered just as swiftly, the liaison officer ordered the helicopter to take off at once.

“The news that you have appeared in the Northern Alliance will probably spread throughout the world very soon,” Shen Yu said to Interstellar Shen Yu from inside the armed helicopter.
“You specifically instructed me to make more appearances and give your civilization greater confidence,” Interstellar Shen Yu replied, his voice carrying a hint of amusement.
They communicated in Chinese, deliberately allowing the liaison officer beside them to hear—and even record—the exchange.
And as Interstellar Shen Yu had said, Shen Yu had indeed given such instructions.
That included allowing Martial Arts Shen Yu to display the formidable power of martial arts to the fullest.
Ultimately, one of the necessary purposes of bringing these two men here was to bolster Shen Yu’s prestige.
Casually demonstrating the relationship between the three of them in this way was also essential.
The two of them would not remain in this world for long. The more powerful they appeared, and the closer their relationship with Shen Yu seemed to be, the more of the influence they possessed would eventually be transferred to Shen Yu.
That, however, would be a long-term process.
Now, Shen Yu took out the tortoise shell.
“I already sent you the information on the worm. The problem now is that this giant worm will appear in three hours and destroy this city of six million people.”
The liaison officer beside him opened his mouth wide once again.
His eyes remained fixed on the tortoise shell.
At last, he understood why the “otherworldly ally” whose name had spread across the globe had suddenly appeared here.
Interstellar Shen Yu’s expression also grew solemn.
“It’s too large,” he said. “And it will appear directly inside the city. In our world, biological weapons manufactured by the enemy could never suddenly appear in a rear-area city without being detected. On a frontline battlefield, no matter how large it was, saturation fire could deal with it. But this thing... Destroying its head would be easy enough, yet destroying the head might not cause it to die immediately.”
That was indeed one of the characteristics of worm-like creatures.
It was not enough merely to destroy the head.
Even if its body were split in two, the portion separated entirely from the head would continue thrashing about in a frenzy.
If this happened inside a city, it would still be capable of causing devastating destruction.
It was simply too large. At that scale, every movement it made would be more than ordinary people could withstand.
