Chapter 12: Emptying a Warehouse Worth Billions

Zhang Yi instructed the delivery courier to send 100 giant water barrels to the warehouse. Then he put them into his spatial pocket and took them home. After returning, Zhang Yi began turning on every faucet in the house, filling the barrels with water. At this pace, it would take no more than a week to fill all 100 barrels.
Day by day, Zhang Yi never rested even for a moment. He spent every penny he had without hesitation. Every meal was at the finest restaurants. He also bought large quantities of food from top-tier establishments, storing them in his spatial pocket. During this time, he went daily to the shooting range in Tianhai City to practice crossbows and firearms, striving to improve his skills.
It was unrealistic to become a fighting expert in just a month. However, armed with crossbows, guns, and a fully metal-shelled super-safe house, he would fear no danger that might come his way.
Naturally, such behavior did not escape notice. But everyone around him regarded Zhang Yi as a joke, thinking he had lost his mind and mocking him in private. Even Fang Yuqing deliberately kept her distance, unwilling to communicate with him.
And so, the days passed. Soon, more than twenty days had gone by, and the apocalypse was drawing near. Zhang Yi had amassed vast supplies, including food, weapons, and heating equipment. Yet, these did not give him enough security.
He decided to target the colossal Walmart warehouse. If he could seize it, he would gain enough supplies to last ten lifetimes.
Why not act on the final day? Because Zhang Yi recalled something from his previous life: he had vaguely learned that the authorities had advance notice of the gamma-ray arrival. They had quietly started relocating huge amounts of supplies before ordinary people were aware.
Zhang Yi dared not gamble. He had to act early. According to this logic, even if all the Walmart warehouse goods disappeared, the anxious officials would be too preoccupied with evacuation to investigate thoroughly. This gave Zhang Yi a perfect buffer.
So, Zhang Yi returned to the warehouse and resumed his normal duties. The Walmart warehouse was staffed around the clock, but at night only ten workers were on duty. Zhang Yi chose the simplest, most direct method: he slipped sleeping pills into their tea. After all, with only three days until the apocalypse, he did not fear being discovered.
Since these workers were old acquaintances, Zhang Yi succeeded easily. When the drugs took effect, they fell into a deep sleep. Zhang Yi then went to the monitoring room and shut down all the surveillance cameras.

He knew this place inside out—he could navigate it blindfolded. Combined with countless rehearsals and mental plans, his execution was swift and flawless.
After finishing, he changed into shoes two sizes larger, put on gloves, and hurried to the warehouse floor. Gazing at the vast storage facility before him, Zhang Yi took a deep breath and began collecting the supplies.
Wherever his right eye scanned a shelf, with a single thought, the entire shelf would appear in his spatial pocket.
First, he went to the beverage section. Here were tens of thousands of tons of bottled water, drinks, and alcohol, including many fine wines and imported liquors. Zhang Yi made no distinctions and loaded everything into his pocket warehouse.
Soon, thousands of cubic meters of beverages vanished.
Next was the fuel section, containing smokeless coal, barrels of gasoline, and alcohol fuel. These were household-sized quantities for family reserves or picnics. Just the smokeless coal alone numbered in the tens of thousands of boxes, not to mention the solid alcohol and gasoline barrels.
Zhang Yi could use these supplies for centuries!
He never considered leaving any for others. After the apocalypse, these things wouldn’t fall into ordinary hands anyway.
So he took everything without hesitation. Using his years of warehousing expertise, he arranged the items neatly in his spatial pocket for easy access.
Third, he moved to the food section. The quantity was even larger—tens of thousands of tons! Several warehouses were packed full, looking like small mountains.
Canned foods, packaged roast chicken and duck; puffed snacks, instant meals, premium treats…
"This is enough to feed me for ten lifetimes!" Zhang Yi exclaimed.
He was not picky—he took whatever was available.
After collecting food, Zhang Yi went to the exercise equipment area. His safe house needed fitness gear to maintain his health and strength, crucial for survival.
Though the safe house was limited in space, the spatial pocket was boundless. He took everything he could.
Among the gear were some particularly useful items—baseball bats, fencing swords—all excellent weapons.
While gathering, Zhang Yi also found specialty items like ski and mountaineering equipment, including state-level professional cold-weather suits.
These suits could withstand temperatures as low as minus one hundred degrees Celsius! They were the latest technology from 2050.
Zhang Yi’s eyes lit up. After the icy apocalypse, these would be the ultimate cold-weather gear!

He did not hesitate and immediately collected dozens of the top-tier cold-weather suits and sleeping bags.
After two full hours, Zhang Yi had emptied the Walmart warehouse, covering over a million square meters!
Looking at the vast, empty space, he felt an indescribable satisfaction. Now, no matter how harsh the coming Ice Age, he was confident he could live comfortably.
Returning to his post, Zhang Yi removed his gloves and shoes, placing them into the spatial pocket.
He then drank some tea laced with sleeping pills and rested his head on the desk, drifting into a deep sleep.
After an unknown length of time, someone urgently shook him awake.
"Supervisor! Supervisor! Something terrible has happened! Wake up!"
Zhang Yi slowly opened his eyes, looking confused at the colleagues before him.
"What’s going on?"
A trembling warehouse worker pointed at the storage area. "Damn it! Our warehouse has been emptied!"
"What?!"
Zhang Yi was shocked and slammed the desk as he stood. He put on an act and walked to the warehouse, naturally seeing the completely barren scene.
He knew better than anyone what had happened.
Still, his knees went weak, and with a trembling voice he asked, "What exactly happened? How did all the supplies disappear?"
The other workers wore anxious expressions.
"Yeah, the goods here are worth at least tens of billions! Even with big trucks, it would take days to haul it all away. How could it vanish in the blink of an eye?"
No one mentioned their recent nap during the night shift. Sleeping briefly on duty was common.
Zhang Yi paced with a solemn face, feigning distress, then said, "This is too strange for us to solve. We should call the higher-ups."
Though nervous, the workers were not too scared. Since the matter was serious, they bore little responsibility.
The warehouse's worth was in the billions, and for all to vanish within two hours was obviously beyond their capabilities.
They earned only a few thousand yuan a month and had no reason to risk everything for the company.
So when Zhang Yi spoke, everyone nodded in agreement.
This mess would be left for management to handle.
Zhang Yi immediately called the warehouse manager to report the situation.
The manager was stunned upon hearing the news, even thinking Zhang Yi was joking.
