Lin Caining continued, “There are still five packs of instant noodle snacks and three bags of instant noodles. We do have half a bottle of Lao Gan Ma in the kitchen, but the steamed buns and dried noodles have been gone for ages.”

Fang Yuqing covered her head in anguish.

“Those instant noodle snacks, those instant noodle snacks! They don’t fill you up at all!”

Lin Caining stared hard at her. “Yuqing, something is seriously wrong with the situation outside. Do you think this snow might never stop?”

Fang Yuqing froze for a moment, then slowly turned her head toward the window.

Through the glass, already covered in ice flowers, she could vaguely make out the snowflakes relentlessly drifting down from the sky.

Ten days. It had snowed for ten whole days without stopping for even a moment.

The second floor had been completely buried. Going outside was out of the question.

And on the distant streets, there was only a deathly silence. Not a trace of the snowplows supposedly sent by the authorities could be heard.

Fang Yuqing felt her heart sink into an abyss of despair.

She had no idea how long this snow disaster would last.

Or whether it would ever end at all.

Covering her eyes, Fang Yuqing began to sob in anguish. “Ningning, what are we going to do? If this keeps up, we’ll starve to death.”

Lin Caining clenched her teeth and asked, “Does Zhou Peng still have any food?”

Fang Yuqing shook her head. “I’ve asked him several times. I even pretended I wanted to be friends with him. But I’ve already squeezed him completely dry. He doesn’t have a single drop left.”

“The last time he brought me two packs of instant noodles, they were his final provisions. He’s as thin as a zombie now. There’s no way he has anything left to eat.”

Lin Caining clenched her fists unwillingly. “Then… is there anyone else we could try?”

“Look at us. We’re both so beautiful. If we make even the slightest effort, surely there’ll be men willing to fall for us!”

Fang Yuqing glanced at her and said irritably, “Are you stupid? Right now, everyone values supplies as dearly as their own lives.”

“Even if they’re attracted to us, they won’t hand over their provisions that easily.”

“Besides, it’s so cold outside. Even if we threw ourselves at them and offered to let them have us for free, they probably wouldn’t be physically capable of it.”

A trace of pain flashed through Fang Yuqing’s eyes as she said this.

What Lin Caining didn’t know was that Fang Yuqing had already tried that approach.

She had attempted to use her beauty to trade with men for supplies.

The problem was that her standards were far too high.

She demanded that the man be at least six feet tall, a civil servant, and earning over fifty thousand a month before she would agree to make love to him.

In the end, even the sixty-year-old man next door had told her, “You came too late. If you’d come half a month earlier, I might still have had enough strength for one last battle.”

Lin Caining bit her lip, equally frightened deep down.

As a woman with some beauty, she had intended to rely on her looks as her final means of survival.

But the cold was clearly the perfect cure for lust.

Suddenly, the image of a man appeared in her mind.

She said to Fang Yuqing, “Oh, right, Yuqing. Have you forgotten that you still have a devoted admirer?”

Fang Yuqing knew perfectly well whom Lin Caining meant.

She pressed her lips together and said stubbornly, “Hmph. That bastard can forget about me contacting him first. Unless he comes over, kneels down, and begs for my forgiveness, I absolutely won’t go looking for him!”

She had gone to Zhang Yi several times before, intending to give him a chance to bring over supplies and curry favor with her.

But Zhang Yi had been far too cold toward her. He had even sent her photographs just to provoke her.

That had infuriated Fang Yuqing, and she had sworn to make Zhang Yi come crawling back and lick her feet.

If she contacted him of her own accord now, wouldn’t that destroy her image as an aloof goddess?

No. That was absolutely unacceptable to Fang Yuqing!

If her image were ruined, how would she ever find a rich second-generation heir in the future?

Lin Caining said, “Have you forgotten that Zhang Yi had stockpiled quite a lot of food at home? Even after a whole month, he must still have more than an ordinary household.”

“As soon as you go to him, he’ll definitely agree to bring food over for you.”

At the mention of food, Fang Yuqing was tempted.

But she hesitated. “Still, when I contacted him before, he was so cold.”

“You’re such an idiot!” Lin Caining said. “He must have thought he wasn’t good enough for you, so he decided to give up. After all, you were pretty cold toward him for quite some time.”

Fang Yuqing immediately became agitated.

“And whose fault was that? He was nothing more than a petty middle-class man, yet he pretended to be some rich heir and made me waste so much of my affection on him!”

Lin Caining giggled. “But now he still counts as a high-quality backup, doesn’t he? Isn’t that what a backup is for—to be called upon when you need someone to fill in?”

“Just give him a little smile and rekindle the flame of hope in his heart. Then won’t he let you take whatever you want from him?”
