Chapter 11: No One Could See

With a thought, Xia Shouxin commanded the shadow to crawl to the top, beginning to devour the two fresh corpses first.
During this time, Su Weiyu stood silently to the side, asking nothing, only occasionally pulling out the compass to observe the needle’s direction.
Soon, the first corpse was completely devoured, leaving behind the remnant skill【Spirit Body Strike】. This ability allowed Xia Shouxin to use physical attacks to touch non-corporeal entities such as grudging spirits.
However, the second corpse was consumed much more slowly than the previous ones.
If he guessed correctly, the slower the shadow’s devouring speed, the higher the quality of the skill obtained. This time, it might even yield a premium skill like 【Seeking One’s Own Demise】!
Most likely, the body being devoured now was the team leader among the six, the secondary finisher, Zhou Hongjie.
【Devouring Complete! You have acquired a skill—[Perpetual Wound]】
【Perpetual Wound: Gazing upon the injury is like gazing upon fragments of death.】
【Effect: For ten minutes, wounds you inflict will never heal.】
【Cost: If any creature bearing [Perpetual Wound] remains alive, your own wounds will not begin to heal until that creature dies.】
“It really is a skill! Seems like secondary finishers have the potential to generate skills,” Xia Shouxin smiled.
Without hesitation, Xia Shouxin ordered the shadow to begin devouring the mysterious charred corpse that had somehow appeared here.
This time, the progress was terrifyingly slow, barely even inching forward by decimal points.
Xia Shouxin’s expression grew grave as he felt an indescribable strain.
【Devouring Progress: 2.75%…】
【Devouring Progress: 3.85%…】
Moreover, this slow devouring not only impeded progress but also affected his own body—he found he could no longer move, not even speak!
【Devouring Progress: 4.1%…】
“Can this corpse really be devoured too? I thought it was just part of the ruins’ backdrop,” Su Weiyu remarked casually.
“…”
Xia Shouxin stood frozen like stone, silent.

“Why aren’t you speaking?”
【Devouring Progress: 5.7%…】
The progress bar continued to rise.
“Finally found you, running all over the place made it hard to track,” a strange voice echoed from a gap at the top of the ruins. Soon after, a cloaked man descended steadily to the ground.
His hands were enveloped in phantom beast claws, their outlines wreathed in black, non-corporeal flames. A palpable murderous aura swiftly blanketed the ruins, causing every hair on Xia Shouxin’s body to stand on end, a chilling sensation washing over him.
This man—was extremely dangerous.
“Sorry, but for mission success, I have to eat you here, and also replenish some power for Little Black. It’s elsewhere right now, should arrive soon,” the Beast Tamer said calmly, as if this were perfectly natural and inevitable.
“Why aren’t you speaking?” The Beast Tamer noticed Xia Shouxin’s odd silence and slowly stepped forward.
Xia Shouxin couldn’t speak, but he saw Su Weiyu silently draw the wild greatsword she carried on her back.
“Shall I kill him?” Su Weiyu glanced at Xia Shouxin, her brows furrowed slightly. “Since you can’t speak, I’ll take the initiative... If he tries anything, I’ll kill him.”
“Lost mobility? Because of this thing?” The Beast Tamer seemed oblivious to Su Weiyu’s presence and looked up at the charred humanoid figure connected to Xia Shouxin’s shadow at the top. “Even if I didn’t come, you can’t survive here. Any random aberration would trap you.”
He mistook the shadow for an aberration suppressing Xia Shouxin, never realizing it was actually Xia Shouxin’s power.
The Beast Tamer advanced, raising his massive spirit right claw, then swung down like lightning!
“Clack!”
His arm fell to the ground, blood gushing from his shoulder.
Su Weiyu swung her greatsword with one hand, flicking blood off the blade.
“Painful, huh,” the Beast Tamer grit his teeth, staring at Xia Shouxin without so much as a glance at Su Weiyu.
At this moment, Xia Shouxin realized the special ability this girl possessed—she seemed invisible to others!
“Goodbye!” The Beast Tamer, seemingly indifferent to losing his right hand, didn’t even look at his severed limb. He raised his left hand forcibly and swung it down toward Xia Shouxin.
The sword flashed, severing his left arm in midair!
Blood poured wildly from the wounds on both arms.

Xia Shouxin stared blankly at the Beast Tamer, who had lost both arms yet showed no significant reaction—he was utterly bewildered.
Normally, someone suffering an unknown attack and severe injury would instinctively enter defense mode. Why was there no response at all?
Suddenly, Xia Shouxin understood: Su Weiyu’s ability was not just invisibility.
She was imperceptible—her presence could not be sensed!
No! It was beyond mere invisibility; not only did she herself go unnoticed, but even the effects she caused in reality escaped detection. Just like the Beast Tamer, who did not realize he had suddenly lost both hands.
“Killing you is really a bit difficult,” the Beast Tamer groaned in pain and kicked toward Xia Shouxin.
“I’ll kill him,” Su Weiyu said coldly, swinging her greatsword in a wide arc. The Beast Tamer’s head soared into the sky, blood spouting like a fountain from his severed neck.
“You can’t move now because the charred corpse above hasn’t fully sunk into the shadow, right? In that case, I’ll wait here for you,” Su Weiyu sheathed her sword, stepped over the Beast Tamer’s corpse, and took a seat atop a protruding stone pile in the ruins, resting her chin on her hand as she watched him.
Unable to move, Xia Shouxin stood in place, watching the progress bar slowly rise.
【Devouring Progress: 10.5%…】
The progress bar crept forward before Xia Shouxin’s eyes, while his mind raced.
Su Weiyu seemed to possess an ability that caused people to ignore her and her attacks, but she was indeed injured by the Blood Demon, so perhaps this ability only worked on humans?
Yet if that were true, then wasn’t he considered human?
Time ticked by, the devouring progress bar inching forward.
Xia Shouxin stood still, Su Weiyu perched atop the raised gravel, the two of them silently facing each other.
In this moment, the atmosphere was unusually calm and peaceful, as if this were a forgotten ruin, free of danger, no Blood Demons hunting them.
This tranquil waiting even brought Xia Shouxin a rare sense of relaxation, his nerves loosening for the first time since entering.
Then suddenly, a heavy stench of blood wafted through the air!
The blood scent invaded Xia Shouxin’s nostrils—unlike ordinary blood, it was moist, hot, restless, and strangely sweet… or perhaps it was not a scent at all, but a bizarre emotion that one could feel directly and deeply!
