Chapter 15: The Battle Against the Blood Demon

Su Weiyu moved swiftly, leaping through one window after another, sprinting wildly through the chaotic maze-like space. The compass needle unwaveringly pointed in a single direction; the only unknown was the distance.
Suddenly, a strong scent of blood filled the air—a scent that could easily stir the savage desires deep within the human heart.
This was the unique aura surrounding the Blood Demon, a scent marking the traps scattered throughout this room.
Though she didn’t understand why, Su Weiyu knew that once this scent was detected, the sniffer’s location would be revealed to the Blood Demon... The creature seemed to perceive clearly that morbid desire stirred deep within a human soul.
Su Weiyu halted instinctively, preparing to turn and flee. Clutching the compass tightly, she fixed her gaze on the needle.
The pointer aimed straight toward the intensifying smell of blood ahead.
After a brief hesitation, she gritted her teeth, grasped the window frame before her, and vaulted into the next area.
It was a church—upside down, with gravity defying logic. The air was thick with a red mist, suffused with overwhelming frenzy that filled the entire sanctuary.
Above her, the inverted cross and the crucified figure of Jesus exuded an eerie and mysterious aura amid the crimson fog. Even the expression on Jesus’s face bore an inscrutable mockery.
“Bang!”
A thunderous crash, accompanied by a piercing roar of a wild beast. A beast-shaped spirit wreathed in black flames crashed through the stained-glass rose window up ahead. Shards of multicolored glass cascaded down the dome’s fresco, sliding to rest at Su Weiyu’s feet.
“小黑!” The man shouted hoarsely as he jumped through the window from the other side, rushing swiftly toward the injured black panther.
Su Weiyu held her breath, raising her hand excitedly, but was completely ignored.
“?”
Was it because the contracted spirit was hurt, so he paid her no mind?
Su Weiyu tried to comfort herself with that thought, but her intuition told her otherwise—not ignored, but utterly unseen.
“Hey? Can you see me?” Su Weiyu called out nervously.
The beast tamer ignored Su Weiyu completely, methodically cutting his palm and letting his blood drip onto the black panther. The blood touched the dark spiritual flames, which had been waning, and the flickering fire suddenly blazed anew.
The black panther staggered to its feet, growling fiercely, its roar deafening.
Ahead, a distinctive trail of blood threads climbed over the shattered rose window, spreading across the floor.
The light in the air turned red. The wounds on Su Weiyu’s arm began itching. Every blood vessel in her body became vividly clear, and she could even feel the blood brushing against the inner walls of her veins.
The Blood Demon was about to descend...
In the next moment, a blood-colored humanoid silhouette emerged from the darkness—a red, liquid life form appeared before Su Weiyu’s eyes.
“Damn it!”
Cursing under her breath, Su Weiyu leapt back behind the beast tamer.

The beast tamer stroked the black panther and sighed, “Xiao Hei, this is the end. Let’s fight together one last time.”
Though desperate, fighting to the last breath was the principle he and his partner always adhered to.
The black flame panther leapt, black flames blossoming like rain from the sky. But when they touched the Blood Demon’s body, the flames fizzled out like sparks landing on water—no reaction at all.
Instead, the Blood Demon grabbed the panther’s waist like catching a kitten.
In the next instant, blood-red crystals erupted from the panther’s body, piercing through it as a heart-wrenching beastly howl echoed throughout the church.
Although the Blood Demon’s attack was physical, it pierced through the beast spirit’s body, which was formed from lingering resentment.
While strangling the black panther, the Blood Demon casually swung his other hand forward, flinging a large splash of blood toward Su Weiyu and the beast tamer.
Mid-flight, the blood solidified into sharp, jagged crystals, densely covering the entire area before them like a hailstorm of bullets.
Su Weiyu gritted her teeth and drew the short sword from her waist.
Just as she was about to be struck by the crystals, someone suddenly lifted her up.
“Eh?” Su Weiyu’s eyes widened as she looked up at the man holding her horizontally, her mind momentarily blank.
He held me... so... he can see me?
“You, you, you...” Su Weiyu stammered, but before she could speak, Xia Shou interrupted.
“That’s right, I can see you. Hide behind me!” Xia Shou said succinctly.
He glanced quickly at the beast tamer pierced by the crystal spikes nearby.
The beast tamer was still alive, coughing up blood, staring at Xia Shou with surprise.
“You’re still not dead?”
“Just lucky, I guess,” Xia Shou replied calmly.
The beast tamer nodded and sneered bitterly, “But now we’re all going to die. This monster’s abnormality level surpasses mine by at least two ranks.”
Su Weiyu, held in Xia Shou’s arms, wriggled free in panic and jumped to the ground.
She wanted to say something but ended up saying, “Let’s run! If we can find that investigator, maybe we can survive!”
Her heart was a turmoil of emotions—she couldn’t deny she was relieved, as the compass had indeed fulfilled her wish by bringing a companion who could see her.
Yet she couldn’t be truly happy either, for standing before them was the despair-inducing Blood Demon.
Having once escaped from the clutches of the Blood Demon, she saw no hope for survival.
Grabbing Xia Shou’s hand, she prepared to flee—but found she couldn’t move him.

“Not running?” Su Weiyu looked at him in surprise, noticing that Xia Shou’s gaze was fixed unwaveringly on the Blood Demon, as if he had no intention of fleeing.
“I’m staying here to kill it!” Xia Shou said calmly, with an unshakable tone.
Su Weiyu’s eyes lit up instantly, a spark of hope flaring in her heart. A complex reasoning flashed through her mind in an instant:
The Blood Demon’s house was surrounded by the Control Bureau. Only she had managed to enter silently; others could only enter with the Bureau’s permission. So those who came inside must know the basic information about the Blood Demon’s house.
Before this, the Bureau had already sent six “finishers” into this cursed place. Judging by the cloaked man with the animal spirit just now, he was stronger than those six. After dispatching these seven, if they sent more, they would only be stronger!
Could this person be super powerful?
Could he be the rumored Level Four Finisher?
The beast tamer suddenly spoke, “Stop dreaming. The Blood Demon is a liquid, aggregative creature. Physical attacks don’t affect it. Even if you shatter it completely, it can instantly restore itself... Is your abnormality level higher than its? You’re just a Level One employee—don’t be so arrogant.”
Frowning, Su Weiyu stared at Xia Shou in disbelief, hardly daring to believe her own ears.
Did she mishear? Level One employee? That was barely cannon fodder, not even a finisher.
The beast tamer looked at the ghostly panther lying on the ground, barely alive. The black flames on its body were nearly extinguished, turning gray; its form half-transparent, on the verge of complete dissolution.
“I originally intended to devour you first, but now I see it’s pointless. No matter what, we can’t win,” the beast tamer told Xia Shou.
Enduring excruciating pain, he stood and tore off a piece of obsidian necklace from his neck, tossing it to Xia Shou.
“If you get out, find the Second Department’s director. He’ll know what to do.
I can’t go any further. Cover my back.
Me and my partner... one last collaboration.”
“I’ll deliver it for you if I get out,” Xia Shou said coldly.
But you’ll also die here.
Silently finishing the sentence in his mind, Xia Shou passed by the beast tamer and strode straight toward the Blood Demon.
Before him stood a creature as sinister and invincible as a demon god.
But this time, the outcome was not yet decided.
Xia Shou took a deep breath, focusing all his attention.
“[Peak Perfection in the Void], activate!”
