Chapter 35: Idrisu
"There must be something important inside, otherwise why would they be guarding it?" Su Weiyu reasoned.
Xia Shou nodded in agreement.
There is a saying: the more the enemy tries to stop you from doing something, the more correct your actions likely are. In the current situation, these lunatics dressed as doctors clearly did not want them slipping into that fortress. Perhaps the exit to this enclosed domain was hidden inside?
Just then, the ghostly young girl appeared again at the entrance of the fortress, pointing inside as if inviting them to enter.
Su Weiyu could no longer contain herself. "I'll go in and take a look. They shouldn't be able to see me. Even if they could, if their combat ability is anything like the person we just fought, I could take them all on by myself."
Xia Shou did not doubt her combat prowess, but he still cautioned, "Be careful."
Su Weiyu nodded, crouching low as she slipped out of the bushes. With agile movements, she vaulted into another cluster of shrubs, then picked up a stone and hurled it toward the fortress. The stone struck one of the doctors squarely on the forehead. The doctor’s body swayed from the impact, but he acted as if nothing had happened, continuing his patrol along the original route as if nothing were amiss.
Watching this, Xia Shou could not help but analyze Su Weiyu's ability. It was quite unique, and its mechanics were unimaginably complex. As it stood, anyone she attacked—whether they saw her or realized the attack came from her—would unconsciously ignore the assault and rationalize the damage caused. Even bystanders would rationalize these events. However, if someone were to see the victim's wounds after the attack had concluded, they would sense something was wrong. That was what happened at the House of the Blood Demon; when Su Weiyu severed the arms of the execution squad, neither the squad nor those present noticed anything amiss. But once the medical team arrived later, they realized the situation was abnormal. Eventually, even the Control Bureau intervened, classifying Su Weiyu as an anomaly and naming her "The Invisible Human."
The conditions for these two different outcomes seemed to depend on the subconscious judgment of others.
While he was lost in thought, Xia Shou saw Su Weiyu walk out into the open. True to form, none of the doctors saw her. She passed right by them and reached the fortress gate, attempting to open it, but the door remained locked.
She then leaped into the air and delivered a powerful kick to the lock. With a loud crash, the door swung open. Yet, this massive disturbance failed to draw any attention, as if the lock breaking and the door swinging open on its own were perfectly normal occurrences.
She stepped inside to find shelves packed with books in every direction, with a spiral iron staircase in the center leading to the second floor. Su Weiyu hopped over stacks of books on the floor and reached a bookshelf. She wiped the dust off a spine and pulled out a book at random. Opening the yellowed pages, she found a language she had never seen before—completely incomprehensible—though the illustrations of magic circles and gruesome cult rituals were vividly depicted.
"Looks like a black magic grimoire."
Su Weiyu shoved the book back and pulled out a few more, skimming them briefly. She discovered that the languages in these books were all different, and in all likelihood, none were modern languages still in use today.
She ascended the creaky, rusted spiral staircase to the second floor of the mysterious building. There, she saw a mummified corpse sitting behind a desk. Arranged on the desk were various folders, leather file envelopes, and modern, industrially manufactured notebooks and pens. These modern artifacts stood in stark contrast to the ancient books surrounding them and immediately caught Su Weiyu's attention. Since she couldn't read the books on the shelves, the only information she stood a chance of understanding was written in these notebooks.
*Since these were written by a modern person, they shouldn't be in some lost, mystical language, right?*
Su Weiyu approached the desk and picked up the notebook in the center.
"Lucky me, it's written in English!"
She knew English! She could understand the text.
The first page of the notebook read:
*[Thank God, it must be God watching over me from the beyond. The day before I was set to leave that tribe, I inadvertently heard another name for Idrissu—the Blood God.*
*I inquired in detail about the legends surrounding the Blood God within their tribe. In their mythology, the Blood God and the God of Death play the same role, and he is also regarded as the God of Life. They possess an exaggerated reverence for blood, viewing it as fragments of life itself.*
*The high priest of the tribe said that the root of all life is blood; animal viscera, bones, and muscles are all transformed from blood. He even claimed that the previous generation's high priest possessed a miraculous spell capable of turning blood into bone.*
*Although I suspect this was mere boasting, there is no denying that he used a ritual I could not understand to transfer the chronic illness from my little Enya, and her condition has finally begun to improve.*
*Facts have proven that Idrissu’s ritual can indeed treat Enya’s illness, but the records regarding Idrissu are far too scarce.*
*I must find more, and more detailed, ritual specifics as soon as possible.*
*Fortunately, there is more exciting news. I have a lead regarding the Blood God, that is, Idrissu!*
*Thank heavens for my brief obsession with archaeology; the stone tablet I unearthed back then might actually be real!*
*Now, the hospital I have built has a layout and details that perfectly match the requirements of the ritual. Please, let me succeed!*
*I don't care if this Idrissu is an evil god or a god of life, as long as he can keep little Enya alive.*
*I am convinced I will succeed! I can feel a power guiding me from the beyond. Everything is so coincidental—it’s just right. This is no coincidence, but some mysterious force at work... Perhaps Idrissu has noticed my devotion.]*
Having finished reading the first page, Su Weiyu knew this was vital. She set the notebook down and opened the file envelope beside it, dumping the papers onto the table.
"Great, this is all in English, too! I'll take all of this back."
Outside, Xia Shou crouched in the bushes. After waiting a few minutes, he saw Su Weiyu emerge from the building, clutching a large bundle of items. She jogged back to the bushes and dumped the documents on the ground.
"There are tons of books inside; it seems to be a private library! I flipped through a few and found nothing but languages I don't recognize. These English documents are the only things I can read. It seems the person who left these records is the builder of this hospital. Oh, and there's a mummy in there! I assume that's the man himself," Su Weiyu summarized concisely.
Xia Shou frowned. "Written in English? My English isn't very good."
"I can read it. I'll read it to you, and I’m sure Dr. Wang will be able to understand it as well." Su Weiyu picked up the notebook again and began to read from the beginning.
