Song Yu swiftly stowed the bedding on the ground into a backpack slot, without making the slightest sound.

Even if she had made a noise, however, the players outside probably would not have noticed.

The sounds they were making were far from quiet, despite their best efforts to keep themselves hidden.

The rustling was especially conspicuous in the empty sewer. Hiding in the darkness, Song Yu and Little Black listened clearly to their conversation.

“Seriously? The people from the Old City are planning to rob the NPCs?”

“Of course it’s true. They’re going to do it three days from now.”

“Think about it. What kind of life have we been living since entering the game? We can’t eat our fill or sleep properly.”

“There are a hundred thousand players, but how many resources does the city actually have? Almost all of them are in the hands of the NPCs.”

“And we have to be chased by zombies every day. What kind of wretched life is this?”

“Meanwhile, those NPCs eat the finest food and drink the best wine every day, and they still have the nerve to set such outrageous exchange prices!”

“If you ask me, we might as well make one big score!”

The man’s voice was harsh and vicious. Song Yu could not see his face, but from the unsteady sound of his footsteps, she could tell that his combat ability was nothing special.

“But if this is such important information, why would anyone let it slip so we could hear it?”

“You think this is a good thing?”

The player who had spoken first gave a mocking laugh and shot his companion a disdainful glance.

“Isn’t it?”

“Those NPCs have guns. That alone is enough to leave us dead without a grave.”

“The players organizing this operation naturally want as many people to join as possible.”

“The more chaotic things become, the easier it will be to fish in troubled waters.”

Still, all the players probably had the same plan.

Song Yu stroked her chin, deep in thought.

In that case, there was no need for her to hurry. She could simply wait three days, until roughly the tenth day of the game.

Song Yu had originally planned to attack this group of players. Visibility in the sewer was extremely poor, and if she ambushed them in the darkness, she could at least kill one or two.

But after hearing what they had said, she was beginning to reconsider.

Rather than fixating on these seven or eight players, she might as well take advantage of the moment when the players joined forces to rob the NPCs…

Of course, if an opportunity to strike presented itself, Song Yu would not let it pass.

She gripped the nail gun, pressing herself against the wall and holding her breath. Little Black’s breathing beside her slowed to an extreme.

The group of players was steadily approaching them. If Song Yu attacked now, it would be difficult for her to escape unscathed.

She could certainly kill one or two of them, but the others might benefit from the chaos.

She could not carry away the players’ belongings or their corpses.

She would wait a little longer. Even if she attacked, she had to choose the perfect moment.

The players did not notice Song Yu and Little Black in the darkness at all. They swaggered right into the shelter the two had chosen and even prepared to start a fire and rest.

Who could possibly tolerate that?

Song Yu had already been prepared to let them go!

The space where she and Little Black slept at night connected two sewer passages. Recesses had been carved into the walls on either side.

The recesses were spacious enough to hold both Song Yu and Little Black with room to spare.

The two stood inside one of them, silently watching the players prepare to light a fire.

Frankly, they were so close that the players had not even noticed Song Yu and Little Black, yet they still dreamed of profiting from the coming chaos.

The fact that they had not been hacked to death from behind already counted as extraordinary luck.

Little Black looked up at Song Yu. Song Yu nodded.

She raised her hand and fired an arrow at the players, who were still chattering incessantly.

One should always choose the softest persimmon to squeeze. Song Yu could not deal with high-level zombies, but surely she could handle a group of players.

With the bulletproof vest given to her by the Watcher Organization, she had nothing to fear as long as the players did not have guns.

The players were bunched together, and the arrow from her crossbow struck one of them by sheer luck.

“Aaagh!”

A horrific scream immediately rang through the sewer, echoing again and again.

“Are you insane?”

A sound that loud could easily attract zombies!

One of the players immediately lunged forward and clamped a hand over the screaming man’s mouth. But that only made the others realize that something was wrong.

The smell of blood spread through the air, and Song Yu fired a second arrow.

“Someone’s here!”

After arrows came flying at them one after another, they finally realized that Song Yu was present. But in the darkness, they could not determine where she was.

Relying on sound and touch, Song Yu fired several more arrows before shaking out her hand.

She really needed to get some night-vision goggles.

Unfortunately, tools like that were extremely expensive at Chen Su’s shop, costing at least the blood of a Tier Three or Tier Four mutant.

Relying on its keen sense of smell and nimble body, Little Black darted rapidly among the players, inflicting considerable injuries on them.

The players wanted to fight back, but they could not find either Song Yu or Little Black!

Song Yu also knew when to stop. When Little Black returned to her side, she knew that one player had already been killed.

She immediately prepared to leave with Little Black, only to find that the group of players was also trying to escape.

“Go! Hurry!”

Amid the players’ panicked cries, Song Yu collided with them.

The two groups crashed into one another. Song Yu was alone, so she naturally knew that everyone besides herself was an enemy. Without hesitation, she drew her dagger and slit one player’s throat.

As for the attacks from the other players, the bulletproof vest’s fifteen points of defense were enough to block most of the damage.

Even so, her health was dropping rapidly.

Song Yu quickly stored the corpse in her space and fled the scene with Little Black.

Unlike these players, she had a flashlight.

In truth, this alone revealed how scarce the resources in Yangliu City were.

A group of seven or eight players did not even have a flashlight, candles, or matches.

If Song Yu had not been lucky enough to kill several players, she would not have had any either.

There were two adult men. Song Yu estimated that together they must weigh at least two hundred and twenty to three hundred and thirty pounds.

She could hand the bodies over to Tree Origin and take on the animal-gathering quest while waiting for the players to begin their robbery. After that, she would head for the harbor.

Perfect.

The footsteps of a woman and a dog echoed through the empty sewer. The two of them had left, but the chaos in the open area was far from over.

The players had no idea that Song Yu was alone. Each instinctively tried to protect himself, pointing his weapon at the companions beside him.

Curses, screams, and sobs mingled with blood and panic, spreading through the sewer. By the time the chaos finally subsided, they discovered that the player who had caused it all had long since fled.

They had simply frightened one another.

But by then, they were already surrounded by zombies drawn by the sounds and the smell of blood.

For high-level zombies, climbing stairs was no obstacle at all.

In the darkness, the zombies’ eyes gleamed with an eerie red light, strikingly conspicuous.

One moment, the players had still been boasting and making grand speeches. The next, when they felt something cold, sharp, and pointed against their necks, it was already too late.

“Aaah—!”
