Chapter 10: This Damn Talent

When he saw the shopkeeper’s wife take her own life, Brother Long flew into a rage.
“That damn woman!”
But what greeted him was a fist moving so fast it left afterimages.
“Boom!”
Brother Long’s body was blasted away before he even had time to scream.
The supermarket’s other wall was utterly destroyed as well.
Like a cannonball, Brother Long smashed through every partition in his path and landed in an instant on the concrete pavement outside.
The New Humans tearing into their prey in the street suddenly found themselves with a new target.
Chen Xiao remained where he was and glanced at his fist, helplessness filling his heart.
I used too much force.
There was no way anyone could stay in this supermarket now. It would probably be overrun before long.
“Brother Xiao, what do we do?”
“Find somewhere else.”
…
After leaving the supermarket he had just blasted open, Chen Xiao, Zhang Ming, Tang Shirou, and Liu Mingqing soon found another one.
This supermarket was not large either, and its layout was nearly identical to the previous one.
Unlike the earlier supermarket, however, this one stood in an extremely remote location.
They had only found it because Liu Mingqing knew the neighborhood well enough to lead the way.
From the outside, the place looked perfectly intact. It did not appear to have been looted.
Chen Xiao quietly used his Dragon Breath to investigate and confirmed that there was no one inside.
It was a relatively safe choice.
After forcing the lock, the group entered the supermarket and began to recuperate.
Chen Xiao first stripped off his blood-soaked, drenched hospital gown.
Then he took a clean-looking outfit from a clothing rack.
It was a pure-black tactical jacket that fit him perfectly.
Zhang Ming and Old Liu worked together to push a large shelf in front of the entrance. They began observing the New Humans through the glass.
With Chen Xiao there, they felt an overwhelming sense of security.
This was an excellent opportunity to study the New Humans from close range.
After changing, Chen Xiao sat directly in the manager’s chair and ate a self-heating hotpot.
“Old Liu, if I remember correctly, your home is in this residential complex, isn’t it?”
Liu Mingqing nodded and spoke cautiously.
“It seems the disaster isn’t as dangerous as it was when it first erupted. I’d like to take some food home later. My wife and children are waiting for me…”
Though they shared the bond between teacher and student, Liu Mingqing understood the situation clearly.
So even with all these supplies in the supermarket, he still asked their rightful owner before taking anything.
After all, the Chen Xiao standing before him was no longer the little boy he had once known.
He had no idea what kind of talent Chen Xiao had awakened, but anyone who possessed the kind of power he had just displayed was destined for greatness in the apocalypse.
Chen Xiao glanced at the time. It was already past four.

There were less than two hours until dawn.
Although the world outside was still pitch-black, Chen Xiao knew that at exactly six o’clock, the rule of Darkness would cease to function.
The sky would instantly burst into brilliance.
“Fine. Wait until five, then you can go home.”
On the one hand, Chen Xiao was concerned for Old Liu’s safety. By five o’clock, the danger would be roughly comparable to that of daytime.
On the other hand, he was giving Old Liu enough time to gather sufficient supplies and return home. After all, the man had two children.
In the apocalypse, doing this much was enough for Chen Xiao to repay the debt he owed Old Liu.
Old Liu pressed his palms together and humbly bowed twice toward Chen Xiao, leaving Chen Xiao filled with emotion.
After eating his fill, Chen Xiao saw Old Liu off and returned to the supermarket’s inner room.
Zhang Ming stood guard at the entrance, doing his utmost to prove his worth.
Chen Xiao was more than happy to have someone volunteer for the night watch. He waved toward Tang Shirou.
“Come sleep with me tonight.”
Tang Shirou’s heart trembled, though she had actually been prepared for this.
No one helped another person without a reason.
The moment had finally arrived.
“Brother Xiao, Shirou is my—”
Zhang Ming tried to stop him. He did not want to see this happen, but the instant he met Chen Xiao’s gaze, he lost his nerve.
He had witnessed Chen Xiao fight his way from the cafeteria all the way to the supermarket.
A man like that could truly kill him at the slightest disagreement.
Besides, Chen Xiao had saved his life…
In the end, Zhang Ming could not bring himself to say the rest. He remained at the supermarket entrance, looking as though he had aged ten years.
Tang Shirou wore a red bodycon skirt and a pair of transparent, low-heeled sandals.
Against the backdrop of blood, she looked both perfectly suited to the scene and exceptionally alluring.
Chen Xiao had only called her over to talk.
He had no intention of forcing her, especially since his talent came with explicit requirements.
Besides, this woman would achieve extraordinary things in the future. She would become the goddess of countless men throughout Jiangbei.
Her terrifying talent would also make her someone every major power would fight to win over.
Tang Shirou did not answer yes or no. Instead, she approached Chen Xiao with graceful steps.
Watching her tall, sensual figure, Zhang Ming felt his heart bleed.
In his mind, he and Tang Shirou were the true couple.
Tang Shirou had even expressed her “affection” for him before.
But now, they had no choice.
Zhang Ming believed that even if Tang Shirou was not his woman at this moment, she would certainly become his woman someday.
Whether through self-hypnosis or not, his spirits improved somewhat.
He turned his head away and stopped looking at Tang Shirou’s alluring figure.

After Tang Shirou entered the room, Chen Xiao glanced at Zhang Ming, who was standing guard with utmost seriousness, and sighed inwardly.
Ming, this woman is beyond your ability to hold on to. Without me just now, you would have been the one to die in that trap.
Of course, he had no intention of saying any of that to Zhang Ming. He locked the door behind him.
He lay down on the bed, closed his eyes, and stretched out in a starfish position.
Tang Shirou tactfully climbed onto the bed, lay beside him, and wrapped her arms around him.
The talent within Chen Xiao began to run amok, and his body started reacting strangely.
He bent his arm and pulled Tang Shirou into his embrace, asking softly,
“Aren’t you afraid?”
Tang Shirou shook her head and pressed herself even closer.
As expected of the campus beauty of an arts university, her body was even softer than Chen Xiao had imagined.
Wanting to tease her, Chen Xiao said nothing and simply kept his eyes closed.
Tang Shirou, however, grew somewhat puzzled. Had he really called her here just to sleep?
Was she truly that unattractive to him?
“What are you doing?”
Noticing the confusion in her eyes, Chen Xiao asked with a smile.
“Are we really just sleeping?”
Tang Shirou’s uncertain whisper carried a fragrant warmth mixed with the scent of hormones, brushing against Chen Xiao’s face.
“Of course. It’s so late. What else would we do but sleep?”
Chen Xiao turned his head away, a meaningful curve touching the corner of his lips. He no longer looked at Tang Shirou’s bewitching face.
But fate had other plans.
A cool little hand began to creep over Chen Xiao’s body.
Tang Shirou lowered her voice into a seductive murmur.
“You’re lying.”
A tingling sensation surged through him.
Chen Xiao nearly cried out.
He had held himself back for far too long, and Tang Shirou’s provocation pushed him past the limit.
Where was there any room left for restraint?
A mighty blaze ignited within his body.
He rolled over and seized Tang Shirou by the wrist.
His eyes met hers—the beautiful eyes capable of ensnaring the soul.
His gaze swept downward, and the sight struck him like a thunderbolt.
Graceful and delicate, she resembled a flower in full bloom.
“It’s all this damn talent’s fault!”
