Chapter 31: Battling Liu Changan

“Second group, come with me.”
Horse Face’s voice rang out, urging them forward.
Liu Changan and the little boy hurried after him.
Before long, the two returned.
Their conclusion was the same as that of the first group.
“The New Human has really grown stronger.”
Chen Xiao rubbed his chin. He had the nagging feeling that he was overlooking something important.
Third group.
Fourth group.
Then Chen Xiao knocked out another New Human with a single punch.
The second day’s prison recreation period came to an end.
According to Dragon Breath’s examination, the energy contained within today’s New Human was at least one-third greater than that of yesterday’s.
When they returned to their room, everyone’s expression had grown even more grim.
“Boss Jiang, I don’t think I can stay in the same group as you.”
Zhao Kuijiang let out a sigh.
Jiang Yunhan nodded. “From the looks of things, it would be best if we broke up and rearranged the teams.”
Chen Xiao, however, had no need to change groups. After all, he had no real relationship with the person beside him.
Even if they did have some sort of bond, he would still choose whatever benefited him most.
“Kid, do you want to join me?”
Lin Ying of Heavenly One Storage was the first to speak.
He proposed switching groups, and he had directly chosen the little boy, who was clearly the weakest.
The little boy shook his head and replied calmly:
“I’ve decided to stay with Liu Changan. You can ask someone else.”
His voice was childish, yet his words were measured and orderly. There was a long pause between each one, giving everyone the impression that the boy spoke in an affected, scholarly manner.
Lin Ying did not ask anyone else. Instead, he closed his eyes and began to rest.
The following day.
The third day inside the Choice Game.
Although everyone was considering changing teams, none of them actually acted on it.
This time, Horse Face selected Lin Ying’s group as the first to go.
Ten minutes passed.
Strangely, neither of them returned.
“Could it be... the New Human killed them both?”
“What kind of level would a New Human like that have to be?”
Zhao Kuijiang was frantic. He had no confidence in his own strength.
“Kuijiang, what exactly is your ability? I still don’t know.”
Chen Xiao asked with a teasing smile.
Zhao Kuijiang seemed reluctant to say, but then he remembered the sight of Chen Xiao kicking Second Brother Lin into the air.
He realized that whether he told him or not made little difference.
“Grade A. Donkey Force.”
“Pfft!”
Chen Xiao failed to hold back and burst out laughing. “Hahahaha! What a name!”
“It’s not as pathetic as the name sounds. My talent is all about hidden force. Do you understand...?”

Zhao Kuijiang wore a helpless expression, digging himself deeper and deeper as he tried to explain.
Twenty minutes passed.
Horse Face came back looking delighted.
The reason they could tell he was happy was that his horse mouth was hanging open.
Before he even entered the room, everyone heard his mocking chuckle. Then he announced:
“They’re both dead. Now it’s your turn.”
The two he pointed at were the relentlessly chattering Zhao Kuijiang and the grim-faced Jiang Yunhan.
“They’re dead?”
Zhao Kuijiang’s heart sank to the bottom of the sea.
Lin Ying was a member of the Lin family. The fact that he had managed to escape to the mountaintop meant he must have possessed no shortage of methods.
And yet he had died just like that, without anyone even knowing how.
Seeing that the two men remained motionless, Horse Face’s mouth opened and closed.
“I said, it’s your turn to die!”
Chen Xiao noticed the cold sweat on Jiang Yunhan’s forehead. He was probably struggling with a fierce inner conflict.
On one side stood an unknown monster capable of killing Lin Ying.
On the other stood the sworn brother and team leader who had helped him establish their base.
Chen Xiao had no such troubles. Grinning, he glanced at his teammate beside him, Zhai Kuan.
At that moment, Zhai Kuan’s eyes were wide open. His chest rose and fell as he drew deep breaths.
Ignoring Zhai Kuan’s nervousness, Chen Xiao idly tapped his fingers against the tabletop.
Ten minutes later.
Jiang Yunhan returned.
He was the only one who did.
His face was grim, and after returning to the table, he did not say a word.
Chen Xiao had no intention of asking which door he had chosen.
It was irrelevant.
Horse Face came to summon the third group.
Liu Changan and the little boy.
The emotions of those two remained remarkably steady—one might even say unnaturally so.
The situation was now obvious.
Whichever of them managed to return alive would be excluded by the pairing of Chen Xiao and Jiang Yunhan on the following day.
And that would lead to their death.
“The mortality rate in this game is too high.”
Jiang Yunhan murmured, ashamed of his own helplessness.
“Stop lamenting. If you run into me later, you’ll die too, won’t you?”
Chen Xiao patted him on the shoulder and teased him.
Jiang Yunhan gave him a look. “You’re certainly confident...”
Soon, ten minutes after Liu Changan and the little boy had left, something happened that left both Chen Xiao and Jiang Yunhan stunned.
The two of them actually returned alive.
Before Chen Xiao could speak, his teammate spoke first.
“How was it, Commander Liu? How difficult was the New Human?”
There was eager anticipation in Zhai Kuan’s eyes.
Liu Changan thought for a moment before answering, “Quite strong, but not impossible.”
It was practically meaningless.

Yet Zhai Kuan suddenly seized Chen Xiao by the clothes and said earnestly:
“Let’s all choose the New Humans, all right? We humans can’t keep killing one another! You have to choose the New Human!”
Chen Xiao met his slightly crazed gaze and sighed helplessly.
“Have a little confidence, brother.”
“Fourth group, come with me.”
Horse Face’s words sounded like the tolling of a death knell, urging everyone toward their doom.
They arrived at the familiar location.
Chen Xiao did not hesitate.
He walked straight through the Beast Door.
There was no one inside.
But before long, Zhai Kuan was forcibly transferred there as well.
He found himself in a situation where battle was unavoidable.
His expression was savage, his eyes nearly flooded with blood vessels and filled with boundless hatred.
“You forced me into this!”
Zhai Kuan decided to stake everything on a final gamble.
A pair of horns suddenly and grotesquely sprouted from his forehead.
They were unmistakably bull horns.
Carrying this violent power, he burst forward at incredible speed and lunged straight at Chen Xiao.
Chen Xiao finally understood why the man had been so lacking in confidence.
After all that, his Grade A talent was nothing more than a pair of bull horns.
And judging by the look of things, the fellow had not developed them properly at all.
Left with no choice, Chen Xiao once again became a one-punch hero.
He sent Brother Zhai Kuan straight to his release.
When Chen Xiao returned to the room, it was noticeably colder and emptier.
Only four people remained:
Chen Xiao
Jiang Yunhan
Liu Changan
The little boy
“Let’s form a team. Your name is Chen Xiao, right?”
It was Liu Changan who spoke. His deep, resonant voice carried an upright, righteous quality.
Chen Xiao glanced at the little boy, then at Jiang Yunhan.
From the expressions of those two, he could make out nothing useful.
He nodded, accepting Liu Changan’s request.
At this point, the situation in the game had become perfectly clear.
Liu Changan and the little boy intended to deal with Chen Xiao and Jiang Yunhan separately, setting the stage for an internal showdown in the finals.
As for whom they intended to send safely through the finals, that remained unknown.
The Choice Game—Day Four.
Chen Xiao, the first member of his group, entered the arena.
Standing before him was Liu Changan, once a rising star on television through the Martial Extremes program.
“To tell you the truth, I don’t want to kill you.”
“But for the sake of Jiangbei, for the sake of China, I have to send him out.”
Once Liu Changan entered the arena, he suddenly became much more talkative.
Perhaps he felt that he was speaking to a dead man.
