Chapter 1: So Realistic, It Must Be a Big Production!

Welcome to the Beautiful New World.
Zombies, come over here to claim your fresh meat and brain matter.
Humans, please proceed to the security check.
Don’t store your brain here—it’s too easy for zombies to steal!
“Where is this place?”
“Wasn’t I drinking by the roadside?”
Li Xingyue stared blankly at the unfamiliar room before him, utterly confused. His mind was a complete blank; he couldn’t remember why he was here at all.
“Could it be that I passed out again?”
Yesterday, he’d suddenly fainted and been sent to the hospital, only to wake up and be told he didn’t have much time left and should prepare for the end…
After hearing that, Li Xingyue was plunged into despair. He left the hospital, bought a bottle of liquor at the roadside, and started drinking.
As he was recalling all this, the already noisy sounds from outside the window grew louder.
“Damn it, what a bunch of uncivilized idiots! Don’t they know the capital is running for the title of Civilized City?”
Annoyed by the clamor, Li Xingyue stood and walked to the window, ready to curse out loud—only to be completely stunned by the scene outside!
“What the hell!”
“Where the hell is this?”
Before his eyes was a super-sized plaza, big enough to hold tens of thousands of people—several times bigger than Tianan Square!
The plaza was packed to the brim.
Wait—something was off!
They didn’t look like people!
They—were zombies?!
Although Li Xingyue was rather timid and rarely watched horror movies, he’d seen plenty of zombie movie reviews online. He could tell at a glance—their appearance was exactly like the zombies in films!
The same… well, disgusting. Yes, disgusting!

What the hell, is this a movie shoot?
Are zombies invading the city?
He’d never heard of a film base this big in the capital.
But the set design, costumes, props, and zombie makeup were almost too realistic!
And with so many extras, this must be a huge production.
He’d never heard of a movie that hired this many extras. Weren’t all those crowd scenes usually added with CGI these days?
And these tens of thousands were just the zombies—he hadn’t even spotted the extras playing humans yet. Which famous director was behind this?
He figured he’d ask around downstairs later—maybe he could even get a job as an extra.
Money didn’t matter; a boxed lunch would suffice!
While he pondered this, the pressure in his bladder became impossible to ignore, and Li Xingyue hurried off to find the bathroom.
The sound of running water…
“Woke up just in time—any later and I’d have wet myself.”
Washing his face at the sink, Li Xingyue felt a bit clearer-headed. He started to inspect the apartment, realizing it was a regular one-bedroom. Judging by the decor and belongings, it seemed to belong to a woman.
Oh hell, did he get picked up while passed out?
No, no, that couldn’t be—she’s a girl after all!
But maybe she was attracted to his good looks.
Tsk, tsk!
People can be dangerous these days; better be careful!
Forget it, leave a note and slip out quickly.
Given his current physical state, he didn’t want to turn someone’s apartment into a haunted house.
Ever since the diagnosis, whether it was psychological or not, he felt weaker and weaker by the day.
He scribbled a note, opened the door, and prepared to head downstairs—find out where he was, check if there was any chance of being an extra, or at the very least get a close look at the movie shoot.

But as soon as he stepped out, Li Xingyue froze.
About ten meters to his left in the hallway, someone was crouched on the floor, gnawing on a bloody forearm…
Damn, they’re filming here too?
Honestly, the props were incredibly realistic!
If he hadn’t known it was a movie, Li Xingyue would’ve been terrified by the severed limb before him.
And the smell in the air…
Ugh—so strong!
He couldn’t help himself; the pungent stench overwhelmed him, and having drunk heavily the night before, Li Xingyue immediately vomited everything in his stomach.
The “extra” in the hallway instantly turned his gaze toward him.
Realizing this, Li Xingyue wiped his mouth and hurriedly apologized, “Sorry, brother, drank too much and couldn’t help myself. Didn’t mean to interrupt your shoot!”
The extra stood up and began to walk slowly toward Li Xingyue.
How to describe his appearance? Vacant eyes, mouth cracked and deformed, bits of flesh dangling from his lips, skin covered in wounds and pus.
And his gait matched the zombies in movies perfectly—such acting skills, Li Xingyue thought, would take years to master.
Now that’s professionalism!
Soon, the extra was within two meters of Li Xingyue, stretching out his arm toward Li Xingyue’s head.
Uh, brother, what are you doing? I already apologized…
Wait—something was wrong!
Up close, Li Xingyue finally noticed the problem—the guy’s throat was missing half of it. Forget realism, this really was a zombie!
Retract his foot!
Slam the door shut!
Lock it tight!
