Yellow Tooth curled his lip. “Hah. You think you’re Gao Qiqiang or something?”
“Of course n—wait, what the hell! What the hell! What the hell! How do you know Gao Qiqiang?!”
Li Xingyue had only meant to encourage everyone, never expecting Yellow Tooth’s response to leave him completely dumbfounded.
Liu Yi tugged at their sleeves. “Enough nonsense. Let’s get moving!”
The group said no more and set off due west. The town was only a few kilometers away, so under normal circumstances they should have arrived in less than an hour.
However, a few zombies blocked their path along the way. After detouring around them several times, the group decided that it was too inefficient. Their strength had improved, and their equipment was better now, so they decided to use these first-tier zombies to test their blades.
After several battles, each of them had killed roughly three or four zombies, and no one had been injured.
The experience boosted everyone’s confidence considerably.
Li Xingyue watched every move his four companions made. These teammates were decent enough; none of them was slacking off or trying to shirk their share of the work.
Before long, they reached the outskirts of the town.
Looking at the familiar scenery, Li Xingyue confirmed that this was indeed the same town as before.
He raised a hand, signaling everyone to stop, then turned around with a grave expression.
“Stay together later. If we encounter that zombie, be careful. Whatever you do, don’t let it get hold of you!”
Everyone nodded solemnly, then slowly advanced toward the center of the town.
Twenty minutes later, they finally reached the crossroads at the town center. Yet something about the scene before them felt wrong.
Yellow Tooth looked at Li Xingyue. “How come we haven’t seen a single zombie after walking all this way?”
Liu Er was equally puzzled. “Exactly. There should be quite a few zombies wandering around this town.”
They were not the only ones confused. Li Xingyue was even more baffled. When he had come here a few days ago, there had still been plenty of zombies around. Now, not one could be seen.
Then Li Xingyue suddenly thought of something. He raised his hand and motioned for everyone to follow before leading them to the place where they had fought last time.
Apart from a pool of dark-red blood on the ground, there was nothing else.
The two bodies were gone!
The middle-aged man and his subordinate had intended to kill Li Xingyue here, only to be killed by the sixth-tier zombie instead. Their corpses had been lying right here, but now there was nothing left of them.
Had someone come by and cleaned up the bodies?
Or had zombies come and eaten them?
Li Xingyue could not figure it out.
The group searched the surrounding area, but they truly could not find a single trace of a zombie.
Liu San stepped forward, raised the long saber in his hand, and looked at Li Xingyue. “How about we make some noise?”
Li Xingyue looked at the others. No one objected.
Liu San walked over to a vehicle and began striking its door with the hilt of his saber.
Bang! Bang-bang!
They waited for two minutes, but not the slightest sound came from the surroundings.

Liu San began pounding on the door again.
Bang-bang-bang!
This time, the noise was even louder.
Li Xingyue told Liu San to stop and return to the group, then began surveying the surroundings.
If there really was a third-tier zombie here, its hearing would certainly be sharp enough to pick up that noise. All they had to do now was wait quietly.
Sure enough, after a little over a minute, they all heard repeated howls coming from somewhere in the distance.
“It’s coming! Stay alert!”
A figure raced toward them from afar, reaching them in no time.
“What the hell? No way!”
Li Xingyue cried out in shock. He recognized the zombie at a glance—it was the burly middle-aged man who had tried to kill him before.
Hadn’t he already been killed? How had he turned into a zombie?
The burly zombie also looked toward Li Xingyue. Its lifeless eyes seemed to suddenly regain their color. Whether it had recognized Li Xingyue or not, it let out a furious roar and charged straight at him.
Damn it, it’s coming for me!
At the critical moment, Li Xingyue lunged aside, then shouted, “I’ll draw its attention! Take the opportunity to ambush it!”
The others froze for a moment before immediately reacting, gripping their sabers tightly as though facing a formidable enemy.
The burly zombie swiftly appeared in front of Li Xingyue and reached out with its right hand. Its speed was astonishingly fast!
Don’t panic! Don’t panic!
He reminded himself over and over, then seized the right moment and brought his saber down.
Whoosh!
The blade cut through empty air.
The arm, slick with black blood, shot straight toward his head!
Li Xingyue tried to dodge to the side, but it seemed he was too late.
Splurt!
The zombie’s blue-black arm instantly fell to the ground.
Yellow Tooth had severed it!
Li Xingyue reacted swiftly, raised his saber again, and swung hard at the other arm.
Both of the burly zombie’s arms fell to the ground.
The zombie let out a roar and thrust its head forward, intending to bite him.
“Quick! Cut its legs first!”

Liu San shouted and rushed forward, bringing his saber down directly on the zombie’s left leg. With a wet squelch, the blade sank into the flesh, but it did not sever the leg. His strength was still somewhat lacking.
Liu Er and Liu San did not hesitate, however, and struck at the same time.
Splurt!
The zombie’s two lower legs fell to the ground as well.
With its center of gravity gone, the burly zombie toppled heavily onto the ground.
Without its former blinding speed, it could only crawl along the ground, trying to reach Li Xingyue once more.
“Beautiful work!” Li Xingyue shouted excitedly.
He stepped on the burly zombie’s back, pinning its body in place, then brought his saber down.
Crack!
The zombie’s head separated cleanly from its body, and its corpse gradually went still.
Only after confirming that the zombie was dead did the five of them sit down and begin to rest.
Liu Er said, “That third-tier zombie was way too strong. We’re all first-tier now, but killing it was still incredibly difficult!”
Liu Yi nodded. “If we hadn’t known its rank beforehand, I would’ve thought it was fourth-tier.”
Listening to their discussion and recalling the battle just now, Li Xingyue came up with a bold conjecture.
He split open the zombie’s skull with his saber and discovered a blue-and-green rhomboid crystal inside.
Just as he had thought!
Li Xingyue took out the crystal and showed it to everyone.
Yellow Tooth accepted the crystal and examined it carefully. “Huh? Didn’t the veterans in our team say that third-tier zombies all have green crystals? Why is this one blue and green?”
Liu San said, “This zombie was probably close to evolving into the fourth tier. That’s why the crystal has begun turning blue.”
Li Xingyue nodded. He had come to the same conclusion.
Then he looked at the others. “Liu San is probably right. And since there aren’t any other zombies in this town, there’s a good chance it ate all of them.”
Liu Er was instantly stunned. “What the hell! No wonder we couldn’t find a single zombie. They all became its food!”
Today had certainly been a perilous one, but fortunately, everything had ended well, and no one had been injured.
Li Xingyue told everyone to search the surrounding area for useful supplies while he returned to the place where they had previously parked the Big G.
As expected, the vehicle was still sitting there quietly.
None of the supplies was missing. He turned the ignition, and after shuddering a few times, the vehicle started up at once.
Excellent!
He drove around the streets several times, found a suitable route, and soon returned to the central crossroads.
When the others, who had been gathering supplies, saw the Big G, they were all delighted. At last, they would not have to walk back.
They loaded all the supplies into the vehicle.
Yellow Tooth took the wheel, and the group began their journey back.
