Li Xingyue quickly changed the subject: “Huang Qian, how did you get into the Corpse Hunting Division?”
Huang Qian took a sip of her drink and said, “That’s a long story. Simply put, I got in through connections. My father is a high-ranking official in the Freedom City Corpse Hunting Division, so he arranged for me.”
Huang Ya grinned widely, baring his teeth: “Whoa, I didn’t realize Captain Qian is a second-generation official. Impressive! I’ll drink to that!”
Huang Qian laughed and retorted, “Get lost! Come on, bottoms up!”
After the earlier inquiry, Li Xingyue had gained quite a bit of new understanding and insight about the human faction.
If she wanted to climb higher, she would have to go to other main cities, or perhaps... Ark City, because that was the true center of humanity!
But the prerequisite was that she had to improve her strength and reach the higher ranks. She guessed that in Ark City, seventh-rank evolvers were everywhere, and sixth-rank ones were as common as dogs...
Li Xingyue raised her glass, intending to go around with everyone, but Huang Ya suddenly looked out the window and called out.
“Damn, isn’t that that guy, what’s his name... Zhou something?”
They all gathered by the window to look down and saw Zhou Yuxuan driving a convertible sports car, chatting with the guy in the passenger seat, with two young people sitting in the back, all of them smiling broadly.
Huang Ya clicked his tongue twice: “Hey, now this is living. What we have here is just survival!”
Huang Qian made a surprised sound: “Isn’t that Zhou Yuxuan?”
Suddenly remembering, Huang Qian said, “Right, right, he was the guy who proctored our initial exam.”
When Zhou Yuxuan drove away, the group took their seats again.
Li Xingyue looked at Huang Qian: “What’s his background?”
Huang Qian tapped the table: “I have to emphasize this—Zhou Yuxuan is a fifth-rank evolver and also the captain of the Corpse Hunting Team in Zone C of Freedom City.”
“That means all evolvers in Zone C report directly to him, including you!”
“Of course, you generally wouldn’t have much contact with him. If something happens, his subordinates and teammates handle it.”
Huang Ya curled his lips: “So he’s just a hands-off boss. That’s pretty lame!”
Huang Qian gave Huang Ya a nudge: “Don’t speak recklessly out there. He’s a fifth-rank, and his background is quite strong. You guys definitely don’t know who his big brother is!”
“Who?”
“The second-in-command of the Corpse Hunting Division!”
Good grief, another second-generation official!

Huang Qian waved her hand: “That’s off-topic. You don’t need to know all that now. The main goal is to take on more missions and improve your strength quickly. The outer city is basically a refugee camp, and Zone C, where we are, is just the outskirts of Freedom City.”
“When you reach third-rank and enter Zone B, you’ll see—it’s much stronger than here.”
“Alright!” Li Xingyue stood up, raising her glass: “We’ll soon enter Zone B. When that happens, Captain Qian, we’ll come back to visit you often in Zone C.”
Huang Qian burst out laughing: “Captain Li, I forgot to tell you—I’m going to Zone B tomorrow. See you then at the Corpse Hunting Division there.”
Li Xingyue was momentarily stunned: “Why the transfer?”
Huang Qian shrugged: “My dad has wanted me to move into the city for a long time. I was reluctant before, but after meeting you all, I think witnessing your growth is kind of interesting. I hope you can reach third-rank quickly!”
“Alright!”
Everyone stood up and raised their glasses together: “Here’s to reaching third-rank soon!”
“Cheers~”
The meal continued until after ten in the evening.
The group bid farewell to Huang Qian and prepared to return to their dormitory to sleep.
Liu Yi pulled out a pack of cigarettes and handed them around. They smoked as they walked.
At that moment, a young man suddenly appeared from a nearby alley. He glanced left and right before approaching furtively.
“Hey, gentlemen, want to see a show? It’s pretty intense, heh heh!”
Huang Ya sized him up: “What kind of show? How much?”
The young man held up one finger: “Just two sides fighting each other—a popular thing these days, you know. Ten points each, very cheap!”
Upon hearing this, the group seemed to understand something and became interested.
“Alright, lead the way!”
“Sure thing, right this way!”
The young man led them weaving through alleys, taking several twists and turns for over ten minutes before stopping at a very secluded two-story building.
A few people were smoking at the door. Li Xingyue paid fifty points, and they followed the young man inside.
He walked ahead to a bookshelf, pushed it aside, revealing an iron door behind.
Opening the iron door, they heard loud noise coming from within.

The young man looked back and warned, “Watch your step,” then went inside. Li Xingyue looked forward and saw a staircase descending down. They followed him down.
After walking for over a minute, the noise grew louder, and Li Xingyue felt a faint sense of familiarity.
Soon, they reached the bottom of the stairs, entering a small room about forty to fifty square meters in size.
The young man went to the door at the far end and twisted the handle to open it wide: “Everyone, get ready for a violent feast!”
Upon entering through the iron door, they found a whole new world.
Li Xingyue finally understood what this place was.
Another corpse-fighting arena!
It was smaller than the one he had seen before, but about forty or fifty people were watching a performance.
Below the stands, two humans and two zombies were fiercely fighting.
The two humans, covered in blood, kept running while the zombies howled and chased them relentlessly.
Huang Ya and the three brothers were stunned at the scene.
Huang Ya swallowed hard: “I thought it was some kind of strip show. Didn’t expect this.”
Liu Yi looked grim: “I’d only heard about this before. Didn’t think such inhumane shows really existed.”
The audience in the stands were completely different from them—cheering wildly and watching with excitement.
Liu San shook his head, unable to bear looking any longer: “How desperate those two down there must be.”
Desperate? Li Xingyue had truly experienced it—being treated like an animal for others to watch was a terrible feeling!
“Let’s go.”
“Alright!”
