After returning home, Song Chi put everything else out of his mind and plunged straight into the Omniversal Ruins Market’s all-attribute cultivation chamber, continuing his training regimen in the Psionic Guidance Art.

His cultivation plan was actually quite simple. During the day, he secluded himself in the market to practice the Psionic Guidance Art. In the few hours before bed, he visualized the imprint of the mythic mecha in his mind. Once his mind could no longer endure it, he would finally enter a deep sleep lasting the entire night.

With such a fulfilling routine, time passed swiftly, and half a month slipped by in the blink of an eye.

Standing in a horse stance with both hands spread flat toward the sky and his eyes tightly closed, Song Chi felt the muscles throughout his body tremble faintly. The next moment, a series of sharp cracks rang out from within him as an intense, tingling numbness surged through his entire body.

Even so, he remained utterly motionless. Several minutes later, when the strange sensations had faded from every part of his body, Song Chi finally straightened and lowered his hands, ending his cultivation of the Psionic Guidance Art.

It was immediately apparent that, compared with before, the aura emanating from his entire body had grown far more formidable. At the same time, his vital energy continued to surge within him, as though he possessed an inexhaustible supply of strength.

“To think the Guidance Art reached Level Five after only half a month. This all-attribute cultivation chamber is even more effective than I imagined.”

After excitedly testing his movements for a while, Song Chi only gradually calmed down once he had fully adapted to the changes in his body.

On closer consideration, his Level Four Guidance Art had been stuck there for nearly three years. It was thanks to that accumulated foundation that he had broken through to Level Five so smoothly. As for advancing to Level Six, however, it was clearly impossible in such a short period of time.

Even if he remained in the all-attribute cultivation chamber around the clock, it would take at least half a year, if not longer.

At that thought, the warmth that had just filled his heart rapidly cooled.

Although Level Zero citizens of Ember Human Civilization enjoyed an average lifespan of one hundred and forty years, Song Chi was only thirty and still had plenty of time to improve himself. After reaching Tier One, one could possess a lifespan of two hundred years. Only upon reaching that level would he be able to feel somewhat at ease.

After leaving the bedroom, Song Chi headed straight for the washroom. Breaking through to Level Five in the Guidance Art had expelled a considerable amount of impurities from his body. He could hardly bear not to wash himself thoroughly.

Just then, his father, who was sitting in the living room, suddenly called out to him.

“Come with me to the Ember Bureau tomorrow. After your first exploration of an alien star domain, you can apply to activate the Ember Network.”

At the mention of the Ember Network, a light flashed in Song Chi’s eyes, and he quickly nodded in agreement.

The Ember Network was an interstellar communications network developed by Ember Human Civilization on the foundation of the Ember Seeds themselves.

As everyone knew, the prevailing network throughout Ember Human Civilization was the floating-continent local network, built upon the floating continents. It could only be used within a floating continent. Once one left a floating continent and entered the sea of stars, the network would cease to function entirely, which was exceedingly inconvenient for interstellar travel and exploration.

Yet establishing an interstellar network was extraordinarily difficult. Not only would it require an astonishing expenditure of resources, but even an interstellar relay station built with immense sums of money could easily be destroyed by stellar storms, alien races, star beasts, space pirates, asteroid collisions, or any number of other factors. The cost of maintenance was equally beyond imagination.

Of course, the greatest problem was that the sea of stars was simply too vast. The distance between two floating continents was often measured in light-years. Merely linking the networks of two such continents was already an undertaking of unimaginable difficulty.

Setting aside the entire territory of Ember Human Civilization, even the Morningstar Duchy, a duchy located on the frontier of Ember territory, governed more than ten thousand floating continents. Although there were far fewer life-bearing floating continents, connecting every one of them through a single network remained a task beyond imagination.

The Ember Network was different. It was an immense network woven layer upon layer around countless Ember Seeds as its nodes. It required neither resources for construction nor any maintenance, because every node was an Ember citizen capable of regulating itself and even growing stronger over time.

It could be said that Ember Human Civilization had developed into an advanced civilization within a mere few hundred thousand years not only because of the Ember Starship’s powerful adaptability and its ability to drastically shorten the growth cycle, but also because of this unique and virtually unbreakable Ember Network.

After enjoying a comfortable shower, Song Chi once again locked himself in his room and continued cultivating the Guidance Art and visualizing the imprint of the mythic mecha.

Cultivation was like rowing against the current: fail to advance, and one would inevitably retreat. Perseverance was an essential quality for every Ember captain. If one wished to attain a long life, how could one fail to endure even the simplest and most tedious training?

If that were truly the case, he could forget about achieving much in the path of the Guidance Art. Once the Psionic Guidance Art reached its later stages, breaking through to the next level could require ten or even dozens of years of secluded cultivation. Anyone unable to endure solitude would never be able to persist.

The next morning, Song Chao took Song Chi out early. He did not summon the Ember Starship; instead, they continued to use that Galloping III kinetic flyer.

Compared with the Ember Starship, the kinetic flyer was naturally much slower. However, because of the various restrictions surrounding the Ember Starship’s use for passenger transport—and because they were not in any particular hurry—the two still chose the kinetic flyer.
