Chapter 16: He Must Be Missing Me

After Yun Fu applied the perfume to Qin Min’s hand, she watched intently as the contamination level began to drop.

The rich, fragrant scent of the perfume spread softly around Qin Min. Yet the man’s gaze lingered on his wrist for a long time, as if still feeling the warm, tender touch of the girl’s fingertips there.

Noticing Yun Fu’s concern over whether the perfume was effective, Qin Min withdrew his thoughts and focused on the readings from the monitoring bracelet.

As the data updated, a faint smile curved Qin Min’s lips.

“It’s down by 1%.”

“If it were intermediate or low-level psychic-contaminated beasts using the perfume, the contamination level should drop even more,” Yun Fu reassured him. Feeling relieved, she then used the rest of the insectoid psychic essence to produce nearly a hundred bottles of perfume.

Qin Min occasionally helped nearby, but his gaze on Yun Fu was deep and inscrutable.

Under the Empire’s indulgent protection of females, would someone with such a wicked heart suddenly learn how to operate a console and craft perfume?

Yun Fu noticed Qin Min’s look, but the system did not require her to maintain the original character’s persona. Besides, if she were to keep up appearances without doing anything, that would truly be waiting for death.

After all, none of these beast husbands were simple.

Before storing the finished perfume into her spatial pocket, Yun Fu set aside three bottles for Qin Min.

“This is your payment for letting me use the lab.”

Though the perfume didn’t drastically reduce Qin Min’s contamination, it was still useful—and could be shared with others at the research institute.

Seeing Yun Fu’s reluctant expression, Qin Min’s eyes warmed with a smile. He accepted the gift without hesitation.

“Are you heading back? I’ll take you.”

Having stood and worked for a long time, Yun Fu was indeed tired. She nodded in agreement but, hearing that Qin Min had more experiments to conduct, decided she would return on her own.

At that moment, her smart device alerted her that 01 was coming to pick her up at the institute. Stepping outside, she saw the tall, blond man waiting in the lobby.

She breathed a sigh of relief—she wasn’t confident in her ability to pilot the craft accurately.

After greeting Qin Min, Yun Fu boarded the flying vehicle directly.

Trailing behind, 01 and Qin Min exchanged cold, emotionless gazes midair. Neither offered even a hint of civility; both wore stern expressions.

Only after 01 took control of the craft and departed the institute did Qin Min enter the laboratory.

He looked around the sterile instruments and test tubes, then at the lab coat Yun Fu had just taken off, draped over a chair.

Qin Min stared at the coat for several seconds, then lifted it and buried his face in the fabric.

Inhaling the strong fragrance clinging to it, he found himself yearning to become the kind of merman who shed pearls.

But Yun Fu was too sly; she wouldn’t satisfy him all at once. He had to proceed slowly, gradually drawing the affections she scattered among the other beast husbands toward himself.

Back at the villa, Yun Fu looked at the perfume in her spatial pocket and immediately thought of Valen, who had expressed interest in purchasing it.

However, she hadn’t had time to add Valen’s smart device contact that day. After mulling it over briefly, she tapped her device and sent a message to Lu Shiling.

“May I come to the monitoring station tomorrow? It’s something very important.”

Inside the confinement cell, a fox was applying fur care oil. Upon seeing the message, he straightened up instantly, his grin nearly splitting his face.

Heh heh, Yun Fu only knew him at the monitoring station. What important matter could she have? Surely she missed him.

Feeling a little anxious and uncertain because Yun Fu hadn’t come today, Lu Shiling’s eyes regained their spark.

After pressing the call button in the cell with his paw, Valen hurried over at the sound. Thinking that the officer might be feeling unwell due to high contamination, he was surprised when Lu Shiling proudly told him:

“Yun Fu is coming to see me tomorrow. Make sure you grant her visitation rights.”

Surprise flickered across Valen’s face. Yun Fu hadn’t come today, and he had been worried that the many crazed beasts locked up at the station might have scared her off. Now it seemed her courage was far greater than he had expected.
