Chapter 39: Go for it, Brother-in-law 16

Elsa was completely dumbfounded. There was everything one could possibly need in the room—how could she admit that she had come out to climb into Slan’s bed?
Elsa raised a hand and covered her forehead. “My foot hurts so badly. I’m about to faint.”
You injured your foot. What on earth does your head have to do with it?
Slan sighed faintly and said to the maid, “Help Miss Elsa inside to rest.”
The maid stepped forward. Elsa secretly cast the Rooting Spell, making her body seem to have grown from the floor. No matter how hard the maid tried, she could not pull Elsa up.
“Ow, be careful!” Elsa frowned and shoved the maid away, then turned coquettishly toward Slan. “Cousin, she doesn’t have the strength.”
Clearly, she wanted Slan to carry her inside. As she spoke, she even swayed her upper body, her full breasts heaving beneath the low-cut nightclothes.
Disgusting.
Who was she jiggling those things for? Slan was not the only single man here; Yeyu was a grown man too. Xining deliberately pulled a face and shot him a sidelong glance, as if to say: Look, look—quite a lot to look at!
Slan’s brows drew tightly together, but lowering his expression at a time like this would have been rather inappropriate. After all, she was injured. A little coquettishness was understandable.
“I’ll do it!”
To everyone’s surprise, Yeyu volunteered—but his method was even more unexpected.
He swung his staff and directly borrowed the power of magic to yank Elsa, roots and all, out of the floor, flinging her straight into the room.
“Ahh!”
Elsa let out a shriek as her buttocks, along with the section of floor she had rooted herself into, flew into the room and landed heavily on the bed. The door slammed shut behind her.
She was, after all, the number-one villainess. Even her screams were alluring, full of seductive charm.
“Cousin, you’re lying down now, right? No need to thank me—get some rest!”
Yeyu called out from outside with exceptional warmth and courtesy. He raised his brows at Slan, then took his staff and returned to his own room.
Elsa had failed to get into bed, had injured her foot in a mousetrap, and was bleeding rather badly. Not only that, but the moment she tried to act coy, Yeyu had thrown her into the room with half the floor still attached to her backside.
Xining could imagine Elsa on the bed, pounding the pillow and gnashing her teeth in hatred, yet unable to curse aloud.
Compared with how dark-hearted Yeyu was, Xining suddenly felt that she was practically a kind and pure little white rabbit.
Looking at the piece of floor Elsa had carried away with her, Slan understood at once why she had been impossible to lift just now.
The knot between his brows had practically become impossible to smooth out.

Slan tapped the missing section of floor with his staff. A Restoration Spell instantly returned it to its original state.
Inside the room, however, Elsa had not stopped causing trouble. She cried out in a delicate voice, loudly enough to be heard through the door. “Ow, ow! Cousin, my foot hurts so much! Hurry and come take a look at it!”
Couldn’t she use magic to ease the pain herself? Did she really have to make Slan enter her room in the middle of the night? What was she planning to do with him alone in there?
Xining pressed her lips tightly together, gave a slight curtsy, and turned to leave.
Watching Xining’s departing back, Slan felt an indescribable disgust toward Elsa. Nevertheless, he remained polite and spoke in a firm voice. “Miss Elsa, it’s already late. You should go to sleep.”
With that, he entered his own room and shut the door behind him.
Back in her room, Xining hid beneath the covers and quietly rejoiced. Leaving Yeyu behind had indeed been the wisest choice. If she were Yeyu, then even if she did not like Maria, she would never let someone as shameless as Elsa become her sister-in-law.
Elsa was genuinely desperate. Maria and Slan were currently approaching the critical stage of their relationship, and Elsa had decided to resort to desperate measures, shamelessly flirting with him in full view of everyone. Without the incident involving Su Yun’s accidental kidnapping, perhaps she would have proceeded more gradually, slowly tempting Slan toward more intimate behavior. Then, when he eventually could no longer resist, everything would have fallen naturally into place, and the rice would have been cooked and served.
But with Elsa acting so brazenly, they still had to guard against her keeping a final trick up her sleeve. Elsa’s mother was an alchemist specializing in potions. If she concocted some drug that turned uncooked rice into a finished meal, Slan’s personality would compel him to take responsibility to the very end.
In the morning, the maid arrived on schedule to open the curtains and draw back the bed curtains. After tidying herself up a little, Xining went to eat breakfast.
Only Slan and Yeyu were in the side hall.
Xining deliberately asked, “Where is Miss Elsa?”
“She injured her foot, so I had the servants take breakfast up to her.” Slan glanced at Yeyu. The mousetrap had clamped down on Elsa’s sole with considerable force.
Xining smiled. “Healing magic can reduce swelling in no time. It’s been an entire night. Miss Elsa didn’t treat herself at all—is her magic really that poor?”
“Who says it’s poor?”
Elsa walked in. She had changed into another tight black dress, and with every step, her firm, pale legs were revealed.
Even Xining found herself staring, almost tempted to chop them off and braise them.
Elsa must have realized that if she continued pretending, all three meals would be brought to her room, leaving her fewer opportunities to see Slan. Her injury had therefore recovered at once.
Watching Elsa sit down with irresistible allure, looking as if she had come back to life at full strength, Xining truly wanted to stuff her into a toilet and drown her.
Slan smiled with dignity and gentle warmth. “It’s good that your injury has healed. We’ve been dealing with mice these past few days, so there are bound to be mousetraps set out at night.”
In other words: Don’t wander around at night after stuffing yourself full.
It seemed that even Slan was becoming annoyed with Elsa. No man liked being so blatantly seduced.

Yet despite Slan’s distaste and Elsa’s confidence, Xining felt increasingly uneasy.
After breakfast, Elsa hooked her arm through Slan’s and insisted that he accompany her to the garden for a walk to help her digest.
Slan tried to decline, saying that the rain had only just stopped and the ground was still wet, making it easy to slip.
Elsa then said she wanted to go to the study and choose a book to read. This time Slan had no way to refuse, though he insisted that a maid accompany them to help carry the books.
Xining exchanged a meaningful glance with Yeyu, then returned to her room, took up a book, and sat beside the window to read.
Before long, Yeyu arrived. He appeared in an instant and sat on the windowsill, crossing his long legs. “What is it?”
Xining lowered her book. “My sister is currently cultivating in a cave. Is there any way to locate her? Would the paper bird method we used last time work?”
“That method can only locate someone over a short distance. If she has gone farther away, following it would leave your legs worn out from running.” Yeyu dismissed the previous method. “Do you have anything belonging to Miss Maria?”
Xining thought for a moment, then removed a rose-shaped hair clip from her head. “My sister gave this to me. Our mother gave it to her before that, and she wore it for five years. Would it work?”
Yeyu took it and examined it, then held it beneath his nose and sniffed. “It’s already completely saturated with your scent. It won’t work.”
After returning it to her, Yeyu watched with an amused smile as she clipped it back into her hair. “It smells wonderful. Is that perfume?”
Xining rolled her eyes. “Yes. It’s a rose perfume specially made by our family. Only my sister and I use it. If you like it, I can have someone send you a different bottle later.”
“Only you and your sister use that scent?” Yeyu raised his brows.
Xining nodded, then suddenly understood. Her eyes lit up. “Can you use that scent to find my sister?”
Yeyu was about to say something, but stopped. His brows knitted together slightly. “Something’s happened!”
Before Xining could ask what it was, Yeyu jumped down from the windowsill and threw an arm around her shoulders as she stood there, still stunned. A moment later, the two of them vanished from the room.
