Chapter 138: The Brazen Counteraccusation
The entire Jiulong Mountain area is essentially a vast upscale residential district, with villas built continuously from the mountain’s base all the way up.
Owning such a high-end villa right in the heart of Shangjing is certainly not something just anyone could manage.
When Lin Le arrived at the entrance to Jiulong Mountain, he was immediately stopped by the guards stationed there.
“Hello. This is the Jiulong Mountain upscale community. To enter, you need an appointment or to have contact with an internal resident. May I ask which resident you are here to see?” one guard said bluntly, offering a stiff salute.
The guard was likely a retired military elite, strictly professional and serious in his duties.
“I’m here to see my mother. She’s from the Xie family,” Lin Le replied, though he found it somewhat offensive to have to explain he was visiting his own mother.
“Your mother is from the Xie family?” The guard looked surprised.
“What’s wrong with that?” Lin Le shot him a cold glance.
“Sorry, it’s just that I should know all the members of the Xie family here, and I’ve never seen you before.” The guard had probably worked here long enough to recognize most residents of Jiulong Mountain.
“I said my mother is from the Xie family. I never said I was,” Lin Le said with a hint of amusement.
The guard was momentarily caught off guard but ultimately gave up trying to puzzle it out.
“Alright, then which member of the Xie family are you here to see?” the guard asked again.
“My mother’s name is Xie Qiushan,” Lin Le answered.
“Xie Qiushan?” The guard hesitated, clearly finding something odd.
Inside the guard post, fingers rapidly tapped keys, then a shake of the head was given to the guard.
“Sorry, there’s no record of a lady named Xie Qiushan in the Xie family here,” the guard said to Lin Le.
“No way! Are you sure you got it right?” Lin Le was puzzled.
“All resident information is registered in our internal system. If it isn’t recorded, it means she’s not listed here,” the guard explained.
Lin Le’s heart tightened with confusion.
How could this be? His mother clearly lived here, so why was there no information on her?
Something felt off.
After some thought, Lin Le decided to call his mother to get to the bottom of it.
“Hello, Mom, are you home now?” he asked with a smile when the call connected.
“I am, Xiao Le. What made you think of calling me today?” Xie Qiushan’s voice was warm and gentle.
“Because I’m in Shangjing right now,” Lin Le said, never having told her he was coming, hoping to surprise her—but now he couldn’t even get through the mountain gate.
“What? You’re in Shangjing? Why didn’t you tell me?” Xie Qiushan sounded genuinely surprised.
“It’s not too late to tell you now. I’m just at the foot of Jiulong Mountain,” he replied.
“What? You’re... at Jiulong Mountain?” There was a strange tone in her voice, a hint of nervousness.
“Yes, but I can’t even get past the gate. They say I need to contact an internal resident, but they also say they have no record of you. What’s going on?” Lin Le feigned casualness, suspecting his mother was hiding something and not wanting to alarm her.
“Maybe... they just haven’t updated their records yet,” Xie Qiushan said, clearly lacking confidence in her explanation.
Lin Le’s doubts only grew. His mother had been back with the Xie family for nearly three years. How could the records still not be updated after so long?
He was certain she was hiding some difficult truth and lying to him.
“Alright, Xiao Le, I’ll call someone there right now. Don’t worry,” she said before hanging up.
Lin Le stared at his now-dead phone, deep in thought.
About ten minutes later, as Lin Le smoked by the roadside, the guard suddenly called out to him.
“Are you Mr. Lin?”
“Yes, that’s me.”
“The Xie family just called. You can enter now.”
Lin Le stubbed out his cigarette and drove through the gate.
Throughout the drive, Lin Le felt uneasy. The phone call that reached the guard post after so long clearly wasn’t from his mother—otherwise, it wouldn’t have taken so long.
In other words, his mother had to get someone else from the Xie family to speak on her behalf to grant him entry.
Lin Le began to suspect that his mother’s situation within the Xie family was not as favorable as it seemed.
Thinking of this, a flicker of anger stirred within him. Damn it, if anyone dares to make things difficult for my mother, no matter what dog-eared Xie family nonsense you’re hiding behind, I’ll make you pay the price!
Gripping the steering wheel tighter, Lin Le continued up the mountain.
The Jiulong Mountain residential area was built along the mountain itself, connected by a winding, twisting road leading to the summit.
Because the visibility on the mountain road was poor, Lin Le kept his speed slow.
After more than twenty minutes, he was finally close to the top.
Suddenly, Lin Le’s sharp ears caught the sound of a car speeding down the mountain road from above at a reckless pace.
His heart tightened—who dared to drive so fast on this dangerous mountain road?
Without a moment’s hesitation, Lin Le swerved toward the roadside to avoid the oncoming vehicle.
But it was too late.
Before he could fully get out of the way, a roar of an engine sounded as a red Ferrari shot past directly in front of him.
Inside the Ferrari, Lin Le clearly saw a young man and woman, laughing and playing around.
By the time they noticed Lin Le’s car, it was too late to dodge.
With a dull “bang,” the Ferrari’s sharp front scraped heavily against Lin Le’s vehicle, producing a harsh screech as a deep groove was gouged along Lin Le’s car.
It was only because Lin Le had started to evade early that the collision wasn’t head-on.
A piercing screech of brakes sounded as the Ferrari finally screeched to a stop several dozen meters away.
Lin Le’s car was pushed against the guardrail, nearly flying off the mountainside.
Fortunately, Lin Le’s martial arts training was profound, allowing him to escape unharmed despite the violent impact. An ordinary person would surely have been injured.
As the vehicles came to a halt, Lin Le silently cursed the reckless driving that had nearly caused disaster.
At that moment, a black Bugatti pulled up behind the Ferrari.
A tall young man in his early twenties and a middle-aged man with a grim expression hurriedly jumped out and rushed to the front of the Ferrari.
“Xie Dong, are you okay?” the tall young man called out.
The Ferrari’s door opened, and a young man with gray-streaked hair shook his head slightly and stepped out.
He had a small wound on his forehead with fresh blood but nothing serious—just a superficial injury.
“I’m fine,” Xie Dong said painfully to the tall young man.
The young woman from the Ferrari also staggered out, unharmed.
Then Xie Dong glanced around, his eyes finally settling on Lin Le inside his car.
His face instantly darkened with fury as he stormed toward Lin Le.
“Fuck you! How the hell are you driving? Are you blind?” Xie Dong cursed at Lin Le without any hesitation.
Lin Le’s anger flared. The facts were clear: Xie Dong was speeding and fooling around in the car, causing the crash, yet he had the audacity to blame Lin Le!
The tension was unmistakable.
