Lin Le stared at the closed door behind her, still bewildered, unable to comprehend why Xu Xier would blame her for something so passionate that was entirely her own doing.

“Women really are unreasonable…” Lin Le shook her head helplessly and walked away.

After closing the door, Xu Xier leaned against it, her face flushed as if set ablaze, biting her cherry lips with a shy smile lingering at the corners.

The Five Ancestors’ Buddhist Heart had been implanted in her body since birth; no one knew it better than she did. She was still unable to bear its power—every so often, its force would disrupt her mind and torment her body.

At such times, the Five Poisonous Hearts described in Buddhist teachings—Greed, Anger, Ignorance, Arrogance, and Doubt—would surface completely, along with the Five Desires of human nature: Wealth, Sensuality, Fame, Food, and Appearance.

Whenever the Five Poisonous Hearts erupted, Xu Xier’s mind would lose control, beset by wicked thoughts, her entire consciousness fixated on the brother Lin Le she adored. And just then, Lin Le appeared before her, delivering an overwhelming shock to her already fragile state, which explained her behavior.

“Stupid brother Lin Le…” Xu Xier muttered with a soft, embarrassed laugh.

Lin Le, oblivious to all this, left Xu Xier’s house and walked to his car parked by the roadside, ready to head home.

Meanwhile, dozens of meters behind Lin Le, a car sat in the darkness, having waited there for some time. Inside were Zhao Mingyi, Zhao Hu, and their companions. They had followed from the school, but since it was daytime and they were on a public road, they hadn’t found an opportunity to act. So they waited here.

“Damn it, that kid actually went to Xier’s house and flirted with her!” Zhao Hu snarled viciously.

He had witnessed Xu Xier seeing Lin Le out, and his fury was now at its peak, strengthening his resolve to kill Lin Le. If Zhao Hu knew that not only had Lin Le flirted with Xu Xier, but that something even more intimate had transpired in her room, he might have wanted to rip out Lin Le’s heart with his bare hands.

“Relax. He won’t live past tonight!” Wu Dong, sitting in the back seat, played a mobile game with confident assurance.

To him, killing Lin Le tonight was as trivial as buying vegetables at the market.

“Drive,” came a deep voice beside Wu Dong.

It was Tu Manjiang.

Originally, with Wu Dong handling things, Tu Manjiang felt no concern. He was simply curious about the young man who, at seventeen or eighteen, had allegedly defeated Guan Tianxiong, mastered internal energy, and single-handedly challenged the entire Tianxiong Gang.

Yet, upon seeing Lin Le now, he felt disappointed—he believed he had wasted his night. The boy’s appearance and bearing were nothing like those of a martial arts master; even his primal energy seemed weak. At most, he looked like someone with a bit of military training, familiar only with basic combat techniques.

Tu Manjiang thought he had overestimated his opponent. Had he known Lin Le was just an ordinary fellow with no real skills, he wouldn’t have made such a fuss by bringing Wu Dong; any of his other underlings could have handled it easily.

Now, Tu Manjiang leaned back in his seat, already thinking about where to go for a late-night snack.

Zhao Hu started the Mercedes and followed Lin Le, chasing after him onto the highway.

Not long after Lin Le and the others left, Xu Xier’s door opened again.

A richly dressed woman hurried inside. Though in her forties, she looked much younger than her peers. Her appearance and demeanor still carried an alluring charm, making it clear she must have been a stunning beauty in her youth.

This woman was Xu Xier’s mother, Zhu Mengyan.

She had traveled out of town but, upon landing, heard that her daughter was in trouble. Without even leaving the airport, she rushed straight home.

“Xier! Xier!” Zhu Mengyan called out as she entered.

“Mom, you’re back.” To Zhu Mengyan’s surprise, her daughter sat calmly on the sofa watching TV, as if nothing had happened.

“You… you’re alright? Didn’t you say your Five Poisonous Hearts had flared up?” Zhu Mengyan looked at Xu Xier in disbelief.

“They did, but… it’s over now,” Xu Xier replied, somewhat uncertain.

“What? How can that be? Every time your Five Poisonous Hearts erupt, it lasts at least three days. Why was it over so quickly this time?” Suspicion was written all over Zhu Mengyan’s face.

“This…” Xu Xier lowered her head. Her mother had always warned her never to let anyone else know about the Five Ancestors’ Buddhist Heart inside her, lest it invite great trouble.

“I really don’t know why it ended so quickly this time.” Not wanting to implicate Lin Le, Xu Xier could only lie.

But a mother knows her child too well to be deceived.

“Is it really that simple?” Zhu Mengyan eyed her daughter skeptically.

“You promised never to lie to me. Tell me, what really happened?” Zhu Mengyan’s insistence made Xu Xier unable to meet her gaze. Having been raised solely by her mother, Xu Xier had always been obedient and never wished to lie to her.

“It… it was brother Lin Le…” Xu Xier, unable to resist her feelings for her mother, confessed.

“Lin Le? Why would he be here? And how could he alleviate your Five Poisonous Hearts?” Zhu Mengyan was incredulous.

She knew well that her daughter had long been infatuated with Lin Le. Although Lin Le seemed a bit glib, his character was fundamentally good—this, Zhu Mengyan, who had met countless people, could see in an instant.

Thus, knowing her daughter’s feelings for Lin Le, she had never opposed them.

But she couldn’t understand why such an event had happened today.

Xu Xier then explained how Lin Le had used his primal energy to heal her.

Upon hearing this, Zhu Mengyan was astonished.

“What? He can suppress the Five Poisonous Hearts inside you?!” she exclaimed.

“Yes, that’s right. Brother Lin Le said the method is called ‘Nine True Vital Burning Technique…’” Xu Xier recalled the name Lin Le had mentioned and repeated it.

“Nine True Vital Burning Technique?! How… how is that possible…” Zhu Mengyan was shaken anew.

“What’s wrong, Mom? Is there something wrong with the Nine True Vital Burning Technique?” Xu Xier had never practiced martial arts and didn’t quite understand Lin Le’s talk of primal energy.

“Of course there is! The Nine True Vital Burning Technique is an ancient medical art, lost for ages. Lin Le is just an ordinary high school student—how could he possibly know such things?” Zhu Mengyan was utterly astounded.

She had heard of this technique during her years of seeking renowned doctors to cure Xu Xier. Even the famed physicians who spoke of it couldn’t actually perform it, let alone a teenager!

It was doubtful he had even heard the name Nine True Vital Burning Technique.

Yet, the evidence before her was undeniable. Without such a miraculous method, how could Xu Xier have overcome the torment of the Five Poisonous Hearts in so little time?

“When did Lin Le learn these things?” Zhu Mengyan was deeply puzzled.

“Brother Lin Le seemed to gain these abilities after returning from the army. Honestly, he’s changed so much since coming back—he seems stronger, and… more masculine…” Xu Xier said shyly.

Seeing her daughter so thoroughly enchanted by him, Zhu Mengyan could only shake her head helplessly. She had depended on her daughter for years and had spoiled her too much.
