Chapter 075: Murder or Outing
“In the military, he might learn some martial arts skills or other abilities, but this Ninefold True Essence Burning Technique is not something he could pick up just anywhere!” Zhu Mengyan grew increasingly suspicious of this Lin Le.
In the past, Lin Le often came to their house to see Xu Xier, and Zhu Mengyan had met him many times. With her discerning eye, if he had possessed any supernatural abilities back then, she would never have failed to notice.
Could it really be, as her daughter claimed, that he acquired the Ninefold True Essence Burning Technique in the army?
“All right, Mom, Brother Lin Le isn’t a bad person, so you don’t need to worry so much. Since he has a way to relieve my pain, shouldn’t you be happy?” Seeing her mother still troubled by matters concerning Lin Le, Xu Xier spoke with innocent encouragement.
“I suppose I should be happy, but…” Zhu Mengyan suddenly recalled something.
Upon hearing about the Ninefold True Essence Burning Technique, she also learned of its immense drawbacks. Not only does it consume a tremendous amount of true essence, but with one misstep, it could even cost a life!
Judging by Xu Xier’s demeanor, it was clear Lin Le hadn’t mentioned any of this to her. Since that was the case, Zhu Mengyan decided to conceal it from her daughter as well. She knew her daughter’s nature was kind, and her affection for Lin Le was profound. If she learned that using the Ninefold True Essence Burning Technique to treat her illness might jeopardize her beloved’s life, she would undoubtedly refuse immediately.
“Mom, you keep saying ‘but’—but what?” Xu Xier asked curiously.
“Oh, it’s nothing. But about the ‘Five Patriarchs’ Buddhist Heart’—you haven’t told Lin Le about that, have you?” Zhu Mengyan quickly changed the subject.
“Of course not! I promised you I wouldn’t mention it to anyone. Besides, you said it was a grave matter and involved Dad’s affairs. So even to Brother Lin Le, I haven’t breathed a word,” Xu Xier replied earnestly.
“That’s good,” Zhu Mengyan finally relaxed. It seemed her daughter hadn’t lost her senses completely.
Xu Xier’s expression grew even more proud, her smile bright. “You were always worried about the impact of the Five Patriarchs’ Buddhist Heart on my health, but now that Brother Lin Le is here, I’ll definitely be all right.”
“Brother Lin Le said he would find a way to help me. Anything he promises, he always fulfills, so I know I’ll be fine.” At that moment, Xu Xier was full of hope in Lin Le’s promise, her eyes shining with happiness for him.
The events that had transpired between her and Lin Le in the room earlier left her feeling like a newlywed bride, fresh from her wedding night.
Watching her daughter’s shy, dream-filled face, Zhu Mengyan could only sigh quietly in her heart.
How could her daughter ever grasp the true power of the Five Patriarchs’ Buddhist Heart? Unless Lin Le was a celestial immortal, unravelling the Fivefold Poisonous Heart Array laid by the Buddhist Heart would not be so easily accomplished.
It was all due to her extraordinary husband—if not for him, Xu Xier would not have to endure such pain.
These thoughts drew another sigh from Zhu Mengyan.
Meanwhile, on the highway leading to the Longyuan Lake villa.
Today, Qu Junchu had not come, as per the rules set by Old Master Qu Tiannan.
Having risen to such heights in the Qu family, illegal matters were a frequent occurrence. In their eyes, breaking the law was not necessarily off-limits.
However, Qu Tiannan, shrewd and calculating, established a rule: when undertaking illegal activities, Qu family members must not participate directly.
This was to keep themselves clear of any involvement. With the Qu family’s current influence, most matters could be handled with ease, but once blood was shed, things could escalate quickly. It was best to keep their distance, leaving themselves a way out.
Qu Tiannan’s deep cunning and caution were the very reason the Qu family had become the second most prominent family in Haizhou, just after the Gu family.
In contrast, the Zhao family—father and son newly wealthy—clearly lacked such foresight.
Staring at Lin Le’s silhouette in the driver’s seat ahead, Zhao Hu could hardly restrain himself from flooring the accelerator and ramming straight into him.
Zhao Hu had never done anything like this—following someone around—especially following Lin Le.
Lin Le’s organization, the Kyushu Bureau, answered directly to the General Staff, holding a higher status in the military than special forces, with even more rigorous training. For an amateur like Zhao Hu to tail him, there was no way Lin Le wouldn’t notice.
Sure enough, after only a short distance, Lin Le realized there was a car trailing him.
“Hmph? You think you can follow me with such little skill?” Lin Le snorted.
“Fine, I’ll play along.”
He pressed the accelerator, and within seconds, his speed shot past two hundred kilometers per hour, the car zooming off with a roar.
“Hey, he’s speeding up!” Zhao Hu exclaimed in surprise.
“Did he spot us?” Zhao Mingyi grew restless.
“Catch up,” said Wu Dong, absorbed in his phone, without even looking up.
With Wu Dong’s order, Zhao Hu’s expression grew tense. He floored the gas pedal, and the car surged forward.
But to his shock, the other’s speed was far greater, and his driving skills were exceptionally adept.
Soon, Zhao Hu realized with astonishment that he’d lost sight of his target.
“He’s gone?” Zhao Hu uttered, bewildered.
There were few cars on the road to begin with, and now Lin Le’s vehicle was nowhere to be seen.
Wu Dong in the back seat finally looked up.
“Looking for me?” Just as the Zhaos were lost in confusion, a voice sounded from outside the window.
The Volkswagen Phaeton that had vanished moments ago suddenly appeared alongside them, matching their speed.
Inside, Lin Le gave them a triumphant, wicked smile.
“You?” Zhao Hu and the others were stunned. Their plan had been to quietly find a place to deal with Lin Le, never expecting to be discovered so soon.
“You? You, damn it!” Lin Le had no patience for Zhao Hu’s nonsense, his temper flaring instantly.
They’d followed him all night, driving miles out, and now tailing him again. Obviously, they weren’t secretly in love with him—Lin Le could guess what they were up to with his eyes closed.
He’d humiliated Zhao Hu in front of the whole school, cost him his dignity, and got his mother fired. Clearly, they were out for revenge.
And since they’d followed him all this way without acting, it was more than ordinary vengeance—they likely meant to kill.
Given that, Lin Le would not hold back.
After cursing at them, Lin Le didn’t hesitate. He turned the wheel sharply and rammed straight into their Mercedes.
With a bang, before Zhao Hu could react, their car veered toward the guardrail.
A loud crash followed as the Mercedes tilted, smashing against the concrete barrier, sparks flying.
“Ah!” Zhao Hu cried out, terrified. He was used to bullying others, but when it came to real life-and-death situations, he was all cowardice.
Beside him, Zhao Mingyi’s face was pale. Now a billionaire, he hadn’t even spent his fortune—he cherished his life dearly.
“Hahaha…” Wu Dong in the backseat burst into excited laughter.
“Five kills! Five kills!” Wu Dong shouted with glee.
In the front, Zhao Mingyi and Zhao Hu exchanged glances, feeling utterly exasperated. They’d nearly died, and here was Wu Dong, still playing games…
Were they here to kill someone, or to go on a picnic?
Just then, Tu Manjiang, who had been sleeping in the back, spoke without opening his eyes, “Don’t just sit there—he’s long gone, you can’t even see his tail lights. Hurry up and catch up…”
