Chapter 87: Mr. Lin Secures His Place in History
Lin Le and Guo Zhao had agreed to deliver the Four Symbols Array in three days.
The following three days were simply a period of waiting.
During these three days, not much else happened. The atmosphere in Class Eight of Senior Grade Three improved markedly after Pan Hao and his group submitted to Lin Le. Previously, Pan Hao and his friends would often cause a commotion at the back of the classroom during lessons, shouting loudly. During self-study periods, their behavior was even more exaggerated—running about and making a racket in the classroom was a common occurrence.
But now, it was as if Pan Hao and his group had turned over a new leaf; they were remarkably well-behaved in the classroom. Even the teachers of Class Eight were surprised. They had never expected that the students they had struggled so hard to discipline would be reformed by Lin Le.
On the second day, just before school ended, Lin Le received a phone call from Jia Shimiao.
Back when Lin Le was handling the Tang family matters, he had already made arrangements with Jia Shimiao. Now that Jia Shimiao had found a suitable place, he called Lin Le.
Lin Le considered Jia Shimiao a decent person, and since the invitation was so earnest, he readily agreed.
After school, Jia Shimiao personally drove his Audi to the school gate to pick up Lin Le.
The place Jia Shimiao chose was called Mountain and Sea Tower, a renowned century-old establishment in Huaxia, with its headquarters in the capital. In Haizhou, there was only this one branch.
Mountain and Sea Tower was arguably the most upscale restaurant in all of Haizhou, which showed Jia Shimiao’s sincerity.
The name "Mountain and Sea Tower" was chosen to convey the idea of delicacies from both land and sea, and the restaurant specialized in health-oriented cuisine, which naturally attracted a clientele of health-conscious, upper-middle-class patrons.
As the director of Haizhou Hospital, Jia Shimiao was a frequent guest here.
Mountain and Sea Tower did brisk business, especially during the after-work hours. Normally, dining at this time required a reservation, but Jia Shimiao was well acquainted with the owner, so he was able to secure a private room without trouble.
“Mr. Lin, I am deeply grateful that you agreed to meet despite our past differences. Allow me to punish myself with a drink as an apology for what happened at the hospital last time,” Jia Shimiao said, raising his glass and draining it in one gulp.
“Director Jia, you are too courteous. I haven’t thought about what happened before, so please don’t dwell on it,” Lin Le replied with a smile.
“Mr. Lin, at such a young age, you possess not only profound medical skill but also an admirable magnanimity. Truly remarkable,” Jia Shimiao praised.
“Director Jia, I appreciate your kindness. But may I ask if there’s something important you wish to discuss today?” Lin Le could easily guess that Jia Shimiao’s invitation was not simply for the reason he had mentioned before, and there must be more to it.
“Well… to be frank, I have always had a deep affection for Huaxia’s ancient medical arts. In fact, they have been the focus of my research in recent years,” Jia Shimiao set down his glass and spoke earnestly.
“However, for a variety of reasons, Huaxia’s ancient medical arts have not been well preserved over the millennia. The documents left by our predecessors are few, and many records are incomplete, which has created great difficulties for our research.”
“For example, the Qihuang Guiding Technique you used at the hospital and with the Tang family occupies a very prominent place in ancient medical arts. Actually, I have a somewhat presumptuous request in inviting you here…”
Jia Shimiao looked embarrassed, as if he found it hard to continue.
“Please, Director Jia, go ahead,” Lin Le said.
“I… I hope you might be willing to make the method of the Qihuang Guiding Technique public, to fill the gaps in Huaxia’s ancient medical arts!” As he said this, it was clear Jia Shimiao had summoned all his courage.
He was even prepared for Lin Le to scold him and leave in anger, after all, a technique as rare as the Qihuang Guiding Technique possessed immense economic value—applying for a patent alone could bring enormous wealth.
Furthermore, such extraordinary skills, much like martial arts secrets, were rarely shared with outsiders.
So when Jia Shimiao voiced his request, he truly had little hope.
The private room grew quiet for three seconds, before Lin Le finally spoke: “As for publicizing the method of the Qihuang Guiding Technique, it’s not impossible.”
“What?!” Lin Le’s tone was calm, but it struck Jia Shimiao like thunder, making his blood surge with excitement.
“But the problem is, even if I reveal the method, there will likely be very few people in this world who can actually use it,” Lin Le continued.
“Oh? Why is that?” Jia Shimiao asked in confusion.
“Because the Qihuang Guiding Technique is activated using martial arts true energy. And not just any true energy—at the very least, one must be a martial artist of consummate internal strength, whose true energy is powerful enough to achieve the effect. Yet, throughout Huaxia, how many people have reached that level?”
“And if we narrow it to the medical field, how many doctors have mastered such internal strength?” Lin Le explained slowly.
“This…” Jia Shimiao was dumbfounded.
His idea had been simple: to preserve and revive the lost Qihuang Guiding Technique, rekindling the ancient medical arts of Huaxia.
But he hadn’t expected such an outcome.
In truth, what Jia Shimiao did not know was that traditional medicine and martial arts in Huaxia were originally closely intertwined. The loss of ancient medical arts was not only due to wars and disasters, but also to the marginalization of martial arts.
Precisely because martial arts declined, many ancient medical techniques requiring martial cultivation were lost—such as the Qihuang Guiding Technique.
Lin Le then explained these connections to Jia Shimiao.
Though Jia Shimiao held a high position in the medical world and was considered a titan of medicine, he knew nothing of martial arts. Otherwise, he would not have treated Gu Huaishan as he did.
After hearing Lin Le’s account of the close relationship between ancient medical arts and martial arts, Jia Shimiao realized how ignorant and naive he had been. Lin Le’s words broadened his horizons.
“So, does this mean the Qihuang Guiding Technique really cannot be passed down?” Jia Shimiao felt deeply regretful. To see such a medical technique right before him, only to watch it disappear, was truly disheartening.
“Well…” Lin Le paused, thoughtful.
“Actually, Director Jia, if you truly wish to preserve the Qihuang Guiding Technique, it’s not entirely impossible. It would just require a different approach…” Lin Le said calmly.
“Oh? If you have a brilliant idea, Mr. Lin, please share it!” Jia Shimiao seized on this last hope, his excitement palpable.
“The Qihuang Guiding Technique works by using true energy to impact the body’s acupoints, curing diseases. Perhaps, I could adapt it into a similar acupuncture protocol, using needles instead.”
“Though the efficacy would be greatly reduced—only about thirty percent of its true effect—but it should suffice for treating ordinary ailments! Most importantly, this method would make it easier to promote and preserve. What do you think, Director Jia?” Lin Le explained his idea.
“This… This is wonderful!” Jia Shimiao was so excited he slapped the table, his voice trembling.
“If this can be done, Mr. Lin, you will have made an immense contribution to Huaxia’s medical community and the preservation of ancient medical arts. Your name will be recorded in the annals of Huaxia medicine, remembered for generations!” Jia Shimiao was nearly moved to tears.
“Well… Director Jia, you overstate it…” Lin Le replied awkwardly.
To be immortalized in history—wasn’t that a bit much?
