Chapter 153: Someone Is Waiting for You
Xu An'an remembered seeing this incredibly cool yet flamboyant sports car in Jiang Li’s garage once. At the time, she had asked, "This car looks so expensive; how much was it?"
She had reached out to touch it, even thinking about sitting inside for a moment.
But when Jiang Li named the price, she nearly snapped the rearview mirror off in shock and immediately jumped far away. "You mean this car costs one hundred million!?"
In an instant, her entire value system had been completely overturned.
The kicker was that Jiang Li didn't even like the car. He had never driven it, claiming it was too "girly." It had been a birthday gift from someone. Since it’s rude not to accept birthday presents, he had just tossed it into the garage to gather dust.
"If you want it, it’s yours."
Those four airy words made it sound as if the car were worthless.
Xu An’an didn't dare accept it and quickly waved her hands. "No, no, thank you for the kind offer."
She couldn't afford to maintain a car like that.
Xu An’an pulled her thoughts back to the present, staring at the flamboyant supercar not far away. She wondered why Jiang Li had suddenly decided to drive this car over—could it be that he came here specifically to back her up?
Contemplating this possibility, Xu An’an couldn't help but look toward the driver's seat with anticipation.
Why hadn't they stepped out yet?
The others were watching with equal curiosity.
First, a pair of slender, beautiful legs appeared. Xu An’an let her gaze fall, disappointed, and couldn't help but wonder why a woman would be driving Jiang Li’s car.
Unaccountably, a saying came to mind: If a man wants to spend money on you, don't hold back; if you don't spend it, another woman will spend it for you.
So, the car she didn't want had ended up in the hands of another woman.
"Isn't that the big celebrity?"
"Yes, that's Murong Yan."
Xu An’an looked up and locked eyes with Murong Yan as she stepped out of the car. Both were surprised.
Murong Yan handed her keys to an assistant, instructed them to park the car, and walked toward Xu An’an with a bright, pleasant smile. "An’an, so you graduated from this school?"
Xu An’an nodded. "But you weren't a student here, were you?"
After all, Murong Yan was a top-tier superstar now; if she had truly studied here, the school would have publicized it long ago.
"A friend of mine is a student here," Murong Yan explained simply. "We might as well go in together."
Those who had been watching for a long time saw that Xu An’an knew Murong Yan and rushed over to greet her.
Murong Yan, out of respect for Xu An’an, replied with a polite smile, though she politely declined when people asked for photos or autographs. "Let's head inside first, or we'll be late."
Xu An’an didn't want to be too involved with Murong Yan, so she seized the chance to drop to the back of the group and, when no one was paying attention, went to look for her teacher.
She had come to the reunion primarily to see her mentor.
If it weren't for her teacher’s help, Xu An’an likely would have dropped out of school long ago. Back then, her mother had been unable to work due to illness, and earning money was a struggle; basic living expenses were a problem, let alone tuition fees.
Xu An’an had already been balancing work and school, intending to quit her studies to work full-time and earn money for her mother’s medical treatment.
It was the teacher who had sought her out at home, talked her through her mindset, funded her education, and even lent money for her mother’s medical bills. It is no exaggeration to say that she wouldn't have made it through those difficult days without that help.
Thinking of this, Xu An’an quickened her pace.
Though she realized the reunion would start soon and her teacher might not be in the office, she was already close and wanted to check anyway.
In the past, when she couldn't afford enough to eat, her teacher would bring her into the office to have a meal.
The office door was open. Xu An’an knocked and stepped inside, but she didn't see anyone. If the room were empty, the door should have been locked.
"Teacher Gao?" she called out tentatively. "Are you here?"
She rounded the desk and saw Teacher Gao collapsed on the floor. Terrified, she immediately called for an ambulance and began performing CPR.
Following the ambulance, Xu An’an accompanied her to the hospital.
After emergency treatment, Teacher Gao was out of danger, though she wouldn't wake up until the next day. The doctors praised Xu An’an for her quick response, noting that otherwise, the teacher might not have survived the trip.
The doctor asked Xu An’an to contact the family and then left.
Xu An’an had no way to reach the teacher’s relatives, but luckily, an old classmate called to ask where she had gone.
"The reunion has started, you're the only one missing, hurry up and get here!"
"I think Teacher Gao is missing too."
"Huh? Right, the teacher isn't here either, so you..."
"I’ve brought Teacher Gao to the hospital, and I can't reach her family. Can you help find the contact information for her children?" Xu An’an interrupted, giving her instructions.
Upon hearing that the teacher was hospitalized, the classmate was stunned but agreed.
Xu An’an stayed at the hospital to keep watch, waiting until nightfall, but no one arrived.
She couldn't visit her mother, so she called to explain the situation.
"It's fine, go take care of what you need to. I'm doing well here. By the way, your boyfriend stopped by today and brought so many things. You should tell him not to buy so much next time; it all looks so expensive, he must have spent a fortune! Tell him to save his money; you'll need it when you get married and have kids."
"Boyfriend?"
Xu An’an froze, then thought of Jiang Li.
"Yes," her mother said. "Why? Didn't he tell you?"
After exchanging a few more words, Xu An’an hung up. She hesitated over whether to call Jiang Li, and in her distraction, she accidentally dialed her classmate’s number.
*Beep... beep...*
The classmate answered, and the background was noisy.
"Hello? An’an? I’ve already told the school leadership about Teacher Gao; they said they'd contact her family. Aren't you coming back?"
"I'll come back once the family arrives."
"When will that be? There’s someone here waiting for you!"
"Who? Who is waiting for me?"
Xu An’an didn't get an answer because the call was suddenly cut off. Being left with half-finished words left her feeling restless and anxious.
Her mother had said Jiang Li would come to see her. It must be him, right?
But Murong Yan was also there. Was he coming to see her, or Murong Yan?
But she wasn't at school; she had been at the hospital for hours. If he were looking for her, he would have come to the hospital by now. So, he must be looking for Murong Yan.
Xu An’an couldn't stop her mind from racing.
She rubbed her temples and decided to get up and pace, looking out the window at the scenery to stop herself from thinking further. It was useless to dwell on it.
Standing by the window, the night breeze hit her face, and she felt much clearer.
Her dark, bright eyes were calm, devoid of ripples as she gazed at the distant city nightscape.
Until the sound of footsteps reached her from behind.
