Chapter 20: Pretentious and Hypocritical!
But the other party’s hesitation meant there was hope. She had gambled correctly!
Qin Hongfei exhaled quietly, her composure unshaken—indeed, she had no choice but to remain calm, her life hanging by a thread. “They’re looking for you. Go act as bait and draw them away. I’ll take your friend out of here and bring him to the hotel where I’m staying. Once you’ve diverted them, you can come back for him.”
Tang Jinnan’s gaze lingered on her, surprised that Qin Hongfei would propose such a plan.
Yet, the plan was sound.
The only question was whether it was wise to entrust his friend’s life to her.
Tang Jinnan understood clearly: if he tried to escape with his friend before reinforcements arrived, they wouldn’t get far. If he wanted to survive, he had to gamble. “What’s your name?”
Qin Hongfei considered that he wanted her name so he could settle accounts later if anything went awry, but she answered honestly, “Qin Hongfei.”
The next moment, she felt the large hand at her throat withdraw.
Tang Jinnan pulled his cap low, murmured her name, and met her eyes with a cold, resolute gaze. “I’ll remember your name. I’m Tang Jinnan from the Tang family in Central City. If you help my friend escape safely, you’ll have my eternal gratitude. Stay here for exactly ten minutes—don’t delay a second longer. You don’t need to call a doctor for him afterward.” With that, he strode out of the alley alone.
Qin Hongfei was left speechless. She glanced at the man on the ground and said, “Is your friend experienced or just naive?”
You really believe I’ll rescue him just because I said so?
What if I abandon your friend?
So innocent!
After venting her frustrations internally, Qin Hongfei still chose to save him.
She carried the man back to the hotel. Qin Fei, hearing the knock, eagerly opened the door, only to be dumbfounded by the sight of the burly man. “What’s this?”
Qin Hongfei replied earnestly, “A person.”
Qin Fei stomped her foot. “I know he’s a person. I mean, how did you end up bringing someone like this back? Who is he?”
Qin Hongfei said, “Found him on the street. Don’t ask—if you do, I won’t have any answers.”
Qin Fei helped her move the man onto the small bed. When she saw his face, she froze. “How can someone you found on the street be this handsome? Where did you find him? Are there more like him? Is he hurt? He’s sweating a lot.”
Qin Hongfei noticed he was indeed drenched in sweat and reached out her hand.
Qin Fei stared at her, bewildered. “Hongfei, what are you doing?”
Qin Hongfei shot her an exasperated look. “He’s sweating a lot. I need to change his clothes and check for any wounds…” She had dragged him all the way back—if she could save him, she would; if not, she’d leave it to fate. Saying this, she quickly peeled off his clothes.
Qin Fei’s face flushed bright red. “No, wait… He’s a man, you’re a woman. Isn’t this inappropriate?”
Though she protested, her eyes couldn’t help but linger on the man’s body. Wow! What a physique.
Qin Hongfei didn’t bother to expose her friend’s pretense—she protested, yet her gaze never left him.
Pretentious, hypocritical!
If you want to look, just do it openly!
When conducting research, gender meant nothing to her; whoever stood before her was merely a human specimen. If there was any distinction, it was perhaps only that the subject was robust or weak, well-built or not.
Hmm?
She frowned, puzzled.
Qin Fei asked, “What is it?”
Qin Hongfei was surprised. “No wounds.”
Not a scratch, not even a drop of blood. So why did he look so weak, as if suffering from exhaustion?
Suddenly, she recalled something and grabbed the man’s arm for a closer look. But the moment her hand touched him, her wrist was seized in an iron grip, so strong it felt as if her bones might be crushed.
