“She’s very fond of that role,” Qin Hongfei said, leaving the rest unsaid.

The director immediately understood, asked which role she meant, then looked around the set until his gaze landed on Duoduo. Duoduo’s eyes widened in panic.

Then the director spoke, “Replace this actress. Let this Qin Fei take the role. It’s just a minor part, but you’d better perform it well. This role…”

Qin Fei was overjoyed, “Thank you, Director. I’ll do my best!”

Duoduo was stunned.

“Director, this role requires a clear shot of the face. Qin Fei’s face…”

“It’s fine. It’s just a few scenes. Once her face heals, we can reshoot them individually.” The director was easygoing. Compared to a minor role, keeping the female lead was far more important.

Having achieved her goal, Qin Hongfei smiled, satisfied but tactful. “Well, Director, I won’t keep you from your work any longer. By the way, your equipment… You really ought to replace it soon. It’s terribly outdated. If you’re interested in buying new gear, you can come to me. High-end, affordable.”

The director was actually interested. “Your family sells film equipment? That’s great. Leave me your contact information.”

If the old technician couldn’t fix it but this young woman could, then her equipment was likely trustworthy and maybe even cheaper—perfect for saving him money.

Qin Hongfei gave him her contact details and address.

He accepted them, and she stepped away.

Duoduo watched helplessly as Qin Hongfei and her sister chatted warmly with the director, her regret almost tangible. The crew was already urging her to change out of costume. Her eyes reddened. “Um, crew, since I’ve given this role to Qin Fei, what about my previous one…”

What about her original small part?

That role had already been filled by her own friend, and the scenes were already shot.

The crew member laughed. “You gave it up yourself. You can’t expect us to just leave the role waiting for you.” In other words, it was gone.

Her friend breathed a sigh of relief—thank goodness they’d finished filming earlier! If Duoduo had tried to reclaim it, she would have been devastated.

Duoduo nearly fainted. She’d sacrificed so much for that role, even falling out with Qin Fei over it. In her panic, she rushed off to find Qin Wanwan.

None of this concerned the Qin sisters.

Qin Fei, having regained a role, stayed on set. Thanks to fixing the director’s machine, people were much more amiable toward her, even showing concern for her injuries, leaving her both flattered and amazed. In good spirits, her wounds seemed inconsequential, and she happily remained on set.

Qin Hongfei, meanwhile, returned to the hotel. The moment she stepped inside, she sensed something was wrong. Before she could react, someone gripped her throat, shoving her back hard against the wall.

She coughed.

The man who’d been sleeping on the bed was now awake, his cold eyes radiating murderous intent as he demanded, “Where is my friend?”

Qin Hongfei’s brows furrowed as she managed to speak through the pressure, “Is this how you treat your rescuer?”

He frowned. “Enough with the nonsense.”

Anger flared in her eyes. I saved you once, and first you tried to break my bones, now you want to strangle me? She replied icily, “So arrogant. But my friend, you have no right to be. I know where your friend is, but if you want help, you’d better ask properly, understood?”

“If you kill me, not only will you never find out where your friend is—”

“Even the hard-won chance he seized, risking himself to draw your enemies away, will all be for nothing!”
