Qin Hongfei couldn't help but wonder why there was such a vast difference between people. If she were here, hearing a kitten meowing would only annoy her, yet this person had climbed onto the roof to rescue the cat.

“Oh, this is our newborn kitten. I’ve been searching everywhere for it.” A young boy, about ten years old, appeared, delighted and careful as he snatched the little kitten away—without so much as a word of thanks.

The boss’s expression grew increasingly colder, thinking to himself that he’d warned him not to let his kindness run rampant. Climbing onto the rooftop and getting soaked for a cat, only to receive no gratitude at all.

Tang Jinnan said nothing. Qin Hongfei mused quietly; this man appeared gentle in temper, yet he was clearly someone with his own ideas.

The reason for climbing onto the roof was now clear: to save the kitten, not to steal anything.

Uncle Zhang, who had earlier sworn that the man was on the roof to steal, now found himself embarrassed, his pride wounded. “How could it be just to save a cat? Maybe the cat just climbed up there… Who would risk climbing onto a roof just to rescue a cat? I don’t believe it.”

The boss’s face turned cold, but Qin Hongfei’s voice came even faster.

Standing before Tang Jinnan, she smiled faintly at Uncle Zhang and asked, “Uncle Zhang, so what exactly is missing from your store?”

Uncle Zhang’s eyes darted as he replied, “I haven’t checked yet.”

Qin Hongfei retorted, “You haven’t even checked, yet you’re already accusing someone of theft. If anything, I could say you put the cat up there yourself to frame my friend, just so you could force us to sell our shop to you and sully his reputation!”

Uncle Zhang’s voice rose sharply, “You little girl, how can you spout such nonsense—”

Qin Fei, standing beside her sister, chimed in, “Why is it nonsense? You’ve coveted our family’s shop for ages. How strange that someone would climb onto the roof just to rescue a cat—and how would a cat that’s afraid of the rain end up on the rooftop anyway? Maybe someone put it there on purpose.”

Qin Yun muttered, “Is that true? If so, whoever put the cat up there must be truly malicious.”

The three of them, each adding their own piece, made it sound as if someone really had deliberately placed the kitten on the roof, and the crowd began to regard Uncle Zhang with suspicion. It made sense—he’d been eyeing the Qin family’s shop for a long time. Perhaps he really did it!

Goodness, on a day like this, in the pouring rain, just to frame the Qin family, he put the cat on the roof, making everyone stand around in the storm. How wicked!

Even Qin Hongfei began to suspect it herself, asking, “Uncle Zhang, could you really have done this?”

Uncle Zhang’s face turned ashen and livid, glowering at the two sisters. “I did not! It wasn’t me! Hongfei, you can say whatever you want, but you shouldn’t make false accusations!”

Qin Hongfei furrowed her brows, as if pondering something.

She then said, “Forget it. I have no proof, so for now I won’t say you did it. My friend came down from the roof holding the kitten, and there’s nowhere on him to hide anything. Everyone here can bear witness, so you won’t be able to come looking for us later if anything turns up missing from your shop.”

Uncle Zhang’s face flushed red; her words made it sound as if he really had put the kitten up there! But he hadn’t—he was truly wronged and wanted to explain.

Qin Hongfei, however, had no interest in listening.

Neither did anyone else.

Everyone looked at Tang Jinnan as he came down, seeing that he had nothing on him. If he’d taken anything, someone would have noticed already. So they declared it a misunderstanding and the crowd gradually dispersed.
