Chapter 097: I Have Already Taken Care of Schooling
Qin Hongfei did not beat around the bush. She came straight out and said that she had a favor to ask.
When Xing’s father heard her being so direct, the smile on his face faded a little. He would rather pay a price than owe someone a favor.
Qin Hongfei was a shrewd girl. Seeing his expression, she knew what he was thinking. She said, “For you, it’s just a very simple little request. I believe you’d be happy to help.”
Xing’s father considered it for a moment, then had his secretary ask Mr. Li and Master Chen to step out before saying, “Young comrade, tell me what you need.”
Qin Hongfei did not waste words. She said directly, “I dropped out last semester. This semester I want to go back to school, but I offended the school’s dean of discipline. Uncle, you’re a government official, so this shouldn’t be much of a problem for you, should it?”
Xing’s father let out a long breath.
He had thought it was some great demand, but it turned out to be only this.
A child willing to pursue her studies—this was the sort of thing people in their line of work were more than happy to help with.
“Which school are you from?” Xing’s father asked.
“The third grade of junior high at Southeast,” Qin Hongfei said. As soon as she saw his reaction, she knew the matter was settled. “Class One. My name is Qin Hongfei.”
“All right, I’ll remember this for you,” Xing’s father said. “It’s right that you want to go back to school. At your age, you should study more.”
“Yes, you’re right,” Qin Hongfei replied. She did not say much more. After agreeing with him, she tactfully took her leave.
She showed no intention of currying favor, nor any curiosity about lingering there, which only made Xing’s father think more highly of her. He asked his son to see her out, then looked again at the recovered materials and finally breathed a sigh of relief, keeping Qin Hongfei’s request firmly in mind.
After walking out of the government office building, Qin Hongfei also let out a breath. She thought to herself that with this connection helping her, returning to school would no longer be such a difficult matter, and she would not need to run around seeking favors from all sides. The Xing family’s driver took her home.
The moment she stepped through the door, she sensed something was wrong.
There were signs at the entrance that something had been smashed there. Just as she came in and said, “Sis—” before she could even ask what had happened at the door, Qin Fei spoke first.
“Feifei, your little uncle was here.”
Qin Hongfei knew very well that whenever the fifth branch made a move, the first branch always ended up in chaos. “What did he come for?” After a pause, she asked, “Something related to me?”
Qin’s mother was so agitated her hands were trembling. Through gritted teeth, she said, “Hongfei, be good. Even if I have to go kneel at the school, I will not let you bow your head to that despicable woman.”
Qin Hongfei understood at once. “Is it about my schooling?”
Qin Fei looked surprised. “How did you know?”
Qin Hongfei was helpless. You were practically spelling it out for me, and you still ask how I understood?
Wasn’t this obvious with just a little thought?
“Be clear,” she said briefly.
“Your little uncle came and said…” Qin Fei spoke quickly. “Your little aunt already went to talk to the dean of discipline, but the dean’s position is that you and Mom have to go in person to apologize, and write a letter of self-criticism before this can be put to rest.”
In this day and age, being forced to write a letter of self-criticism was no small matter. It was the same as having leverage held over one’s head.
From then on, whenever the other side produced that letter, Qin’s mother and Hongfei would always be forced to lower themselves.
Qin’s mother said with unwavering determination, “Feifei, that woman has bad intentions. Mom will never let you suffer such humiliation… At worst, at worst I’ll go kneel and beg the principal. I won’t beg that woman!”
Qin Hongfei felt that her mother was right about that much. The fifth branch had indeed handled this with no good intentions. Fortunately, she had already solved the matter of school, otherwise it would have been truly troublesome.
“Mom, you don’t have to kneel to anyone. I’ve already taken care of the schooling issue. Don’t worry.”
