Chapter 108: A Complete Severance of Bonds and Loyalty
Ning Fengzhi took a deep breath and ultimately made his decision—to abandon the ten-thousand-year soul beast!
The continent’s situation had grown unnervingly calm, and Ning Fengzhi sensed a hint of danger lurking beneath the surface. At this critical moment, he had to unite every possible force.
Though Tang Hao had been expelled from the Haotian Sect, Ning Fengzhi—who was close in age to Tang Hao—knew very well the close relationship between Tang Hao and his elder brother Tang Xiao, the current sect master of Haotian Sect. Even to this day, no one dared claim that Haotian Douluo was anything less than one of the two great title Douluos of Haotian Sect.
“Since this soul beast already has an owner, Fengzhi naturally won’t seize what belongs to others!” Ning Fengzhi suppressed his murderous intent toward Yu Xiaogang and forced a faint smile.
“Master Ning, you’re far too cautious!” Dugu Bo sneered. “If Master Ning refuses, then the Nine Star Hall will take this shapeshifting soul beast!”
“Master Ning—” Yu Xiaogang immediately looked toward Ning Fengzhi. He had never had any hope for the Nine Star Hall, so he was willing to go as far as invoking his former lover Bibi Dong to draw Ning Fengzhi to his side.
Ning Fengzhi’s lips curved into a helpless smile. The Nine Star Hall’s unwillingness to let go of the ten-thousand-year soul beast was expected. Just as he was about to respond, Dugu Bo interrupted.
“Master Ning, the Nine Star Hall has already shown you more than enough courtesy today. Everything must have its limits. We will not let this ten-thousand-year shapeshifting soul beast slip away!”
Yang Wudi stepped forward to add, “Master Ning, although the Bone Douluo is indeed stronger than the two of us, he has to save that thief who sneaked in under cover of night, protect the ten-thousand-year shapeshifting soul beast, and also look after you, your beloved daughter, and those three whose soul power has been exhausted. This is no easy task!”
“What if I join in?” At that moment, a rough, heroic voice resounded. Everyone turned to see a towering figure resembling a mountain—an elderly man of immense stature.
The newcomer was the chieftain of the Force Clan, known as the Hercules of their land and also a loyal servant of the Tang family: Titan.
After Zhao Wuji returned to Shrek Academy to request Ning Rongrong’s aid from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, he recalled how Titan once addressed Tang San as young master. Since Titan was a high-level soul douluo, having an extra ally would be advantageous. He sent Li Yusong to the Force Clan to bring reinforcements.
Zhao Wuji dared not approach the Force Clan himself, for years ago he had fled to Soto City to hide after injuring a member of the Force Clan and being pursued by Titan. Although Titan had spared him last time out of respect for Tang San, with so many in the Force Clan, Zhao Wuji was unwilling to deliver himself into their hands.
Upon learning of Tang San’s plight, the loyal servant Titan set out immediately for the Sunset Forest without hesitation.
Seeing Tang San lying unconscious, battered and bloodied, Titan’s eyes flashed a fierce red. His face flushed, and veins bulged on his hands.
“Old ape?” Yang Wudi was taken aback by Titan’s sudden appearance. Although the Force Clan and the Break Clan were the most distant among the four affiliated great clans, and Titan had grumbled a few times about Yang Wudi joining the Nine Star Hall, they had maintained decades of acquaintance. Yet now Titan was siding with an outsider against him. Yang Wudi’s face hardened as he snapped, “Old ape, after all these years, what exactly is your meaning?”
“Sorry, old goat.” Titan’s expression shifted slightly at Yang Wudi’s words but quickly regained its resolute composure. He stepped forward and stood protectively before the still-unconscious Tang San.
“But today I must protect my master’s only bloodline!”
“You say this kid is Tang Hao’s son?” Yang Wudi’s eyes darkened with a glint of killing intent as he finally understood Tang San’s true identity.
Boom!
In the next instant, Yang Wudi’s soul power burst forth like a raging tidal wave crashing down upon Tang San.
Titan roared in anger, releasing his own powerful soul force.
The soul pressure of two Douluos collided with a heavy thud, forcing both Titan and Yang Wudi to stagger back several steps.
“Old ape, are you really going to fight me over Tang Hao’s son?” Yang Wudi’s face was as cold as ice.
Titan stood firm, his voice resolute: “Old goat, no matter who it is, no one is allowed to harm my master’s child!”
“You’ve truly lost your mind!” Yang Wudi could not fathom Titan’s reasoning. “Have you forgotten how badly our four affiliated great clans suffered at the hands of Haotian Sect? And you still call that coward Tang Hao your master? What about those who died because of him?”
“Yang Wudi, you will not slander my master!” Titan’s fury ignited at being called out. He no longer used the fraternal nickname “old goat”…
