Chapter Seventy: The Death of the Colossal Beast
Held so tightly by Xiao Yu, Ye Lingling’s cheeks flushed a delicate red. Yet she did not push him away; instead, she murmured that she felt a bit dizzy and let herself lean further into his embrace.
Seeing this, Huo Wu couldn’t help but snort softly in annoyance, then turned her full attention to the battle unfolding ahead. To witness three Title Douluo joining forces to hunt down a terrifying hundred-thousand-year soul beast—such a scene was likely a once-in-a-lifetime event. Quickly, Huo Wu became utterly absorbed, hoping to gain some insight from the clash.
“Sixth Soul Skill, Wyvern Emperor’s Flame!”
“Sixth Soul Skill, Thunder Strike!”
“Sixth Soul Skill, Crimson Venom Needle!”
The combined assault of the three Title Douluo struck the Titan Giant Ape, yet its defense was truly astonishing. For any other hundred-thousand-year soul beast, facing three Title Douluo unleashing their sixth soul skills in their martial soul true form, the outcome would be devastating—at the very least, they would be left with deep wounds, if not killed outright. But the Titan Giant Ape seemed utterly unscathed; its muscles, harder than granite, showed not the faintest trace of injury.
With a thunderous roar, the Titan Giant Ape raised its head to the sky, and an overwhelming surge of soul power rippled outward from its massive form. Rhadamanthys, Milo, and Aiolia all felt a sudden heaviness descend upon them, as if the very air had grown thick and oppressive.
A domain!
The three Title Douluo instantly grew alert, recalling Xiao Yu’s warning before the battle: the Titan Giant Ape possessed a gravity-controlling domain, and within its boundaries, it could manipulate gravity at will.
“Be careful, this beast is no easy foe—don’t let it catch you off guard!” Rhadamanthys bellowed, his draconic wings beating furiously as he charged the Titan Giant Ape. Even with the oppressive gravity bearing down on him, as if carrying a mountain atop his shoulders, a dragon does not grovel—he soars.
A flicker of wariness flashed in the Titan Giant Ape’s eyes. The wyvern martial soul before it exuded a subtle, primordial pressure upon its bloodline.
Little wonder. Rhadamanthys was not only a Judge of the Underworld, but in the age of myth, he was the son of King Zeus and Europa. Even weakened after arriving on the Douluo Continent, the bloodline of a god-king, however faint, was enough to intimidate the vast majority of soul beasts.
Not daring to underestimate its foe, the Titan Giant Ape raised its mountainous fist and met the charging wyvern head-on. Dragon and ape collided midair with a crash, soul power erupting violently. Both combatants staggered backward from the force of impact.
“Crimson Thrust!”
Milo, as an agility-type Title Douluo, seized upon the split second of vulnerability as the Titan Giant Ape reeled. In a blur, he appeared before the beast, a streak of crimson light piercing the sky and lancing toward its chest.
This was Milo’s self-created soul skill, built upon his sixth soul skill—by focusing the “Crimson Venom Needle” into a single point, he achieved explosive destructive power. The red beam forcibly penetrated the Titan Giant Ape’s legendary defenses, punching straight through its chest.
The searing agony drove the Titan Giant Ape into a frenzy. With a wild howl, it unleashed its mightiest attack—Titan Vault of Heaven!
Harnessing its mastery over gravity, the Titan Giant Ape compressed the very air into a devastating blast of energy. Its sheer power could rival the ninth soul skill of an ordinary Title Douluo. A massive pillar of yellow light erupted forth. Milo, not daring to hold back, countered with his own ultimate move.
“Ninth Soul Skill, Crimson Needle Inferno!”
This attack combined the scorpion’s deadly sting with the searing flames of Rigel’s Cosmic Inferno. Twin beams, one red and one yellow, surged forth with overwhelming force, colliding midair in a blinding explosion that shook the heavens.
Both man and beast poured every ounce of strength into their clash. The energies coiled together at the point of impact, forming a colossal sphere of light, and a deadlock ensued.
“Aiolia, now! Full force—finish this beast!”
Rhadamanthys roared to Aiolia, who nodded in understanding. This was a soul beast hunt, not a contest of honor—hesitating when the Titan Giant Ape’s back was exposed and its strength occupied would be utter folly.
“Ninth Soul Skill, Maximum Alert!”
“Ninth Soul Skill, Extreme Lightning!”
Without hesitation, the two unleashed their most powerful abilities. Rhadamanthys concentrated his soul power into his palm, firing a barrage of dark explosive blasts in rapid succession, each strike like a cannon shot. Aiolia’s own attack was equally fearsome, channeling intensely compressed lightning into the enemy’s body, paralyzing it with high-voltage current, the force rivaling Saga’s Galactic Explosion.
Both devastating ninth soul skills landed true. Amidst a chorus of cracking bones, the Titan Giant Ape howled in agony, blood spurting from its massive frame, the air thick with the stench of gore.
Wracked by pain, the Titan Giant Ape could no longer fight at full strength. Seeing this, Milo pushed his soul power beyond its limits. The crimson beam, now infused with searing fire, overwhelmed the earthen-yellow pillar of light, smashing through the Titan Giant Ape’s vaunted defenses and blasting the beast away.
“Hui Huo, finish it!”
Already poised to strike, Hui Huo responded instantly. Like a flash of lightning, a giant bird wreathed in black flames soared aloft, launching a sphere of light concentrated with more than half its soul power and core heat. The battered Titan Giant Ape was engulfed, its burly form consumed by fire, until finally it crashed to earth, charred and lifeless.
The king of the forest, the hundred-thousand-year Titan Giant Ape, had fallen. A crimson soul ring rose from its shattered corpse.
“Hui Huo, absorb the soul ring quickly. We don’t know when the Sky Azure Bull Python will sense something amiss—we must make haste.”
With the battle concluded, Xiao Yu emerged from concealment with the two women. Anxious to avoid any sudden changes, he urged Hui Huo on. Given Hui Huo’s willpower, constitution, and martial soul, absorbing the Titan Giant Ape’s ring should pose no problem.
Hui Huo nodded, sat cross-legged, and closed his eyes to begin absorbing the soul ring.
“Who’s there?”
Meanwhile, Rhadamanthys had moved to the Titan Giant Ape’s corpse, his eyes scanning its massive form. Suddenly, he reached out and dug a chunk of soul bone, gleaming with earthy yellow luster, from its left arm. As he turned to hand the soul bone to Xiao Yu, his expression abruptly shifted, eyes flashing coldly as he barked a warning toward a shadowy corner.
