Chapter Seven: The Daoist Arts of the Three Purities

Just as Qingxu was delighting in the activation of his secondary Immortal Dao through the Investiture System, the Primeval Celestial Venerable began to expound his own teachings:

“The Dao encompasses Heaven and Earth; its origin is nameless. If spoken of as nonexistence, its influence yet remains; if spoken of as existence, all things are still as nothing...!”

Curiously, the Jade Purity’s Dao left no impression on Qingxu at all. Upon reflection, he understood: his primary Immortal Dao was precisely the Jade Purity Dao. Listening to the Primeval’s discourse now only served to strengthen his principal Dao.

Having experienced the mysteries of the Grand Purity, Qingxu now found himself eagerly anticipating the Upper Purity. If he could attain the Upper Purity as his secondary Immortal Dao, it would be a tremendous boon to his cultivation indeed!

After a long time, the Primeval finished his teachings, and immediately the Master of Heaven began to lecture on his own Severance Dao.

“The manifestations of Heaven and Earth are divided, the cycles of yin and yang arranged, transformations revealed on the surface, omens of life and death made clear—without contrivance, traces of the Way naturally align...!”

[Upper Purity Immortal Dao 1%...]

[The Three Purities Immortal Dao has reached perfection. The Three Purities Dao Law is now self-activating. The Jade Purity Immortal Dao becomes a secondary path.]

Qingxu was bewildered, quickly checking his own status.

“The Three Purities Dao Law? This is truly formidable—the Great Dao is within reach! Indeed, the Great Dao is within reach!” Qingxu was overwhelmed with excitement. The Grand, Jade, and Upper Purity Daos each contained a third of Pangu’s original Dao, and combined with the Dao of Hongjun, he now possessed the unified Three Purities Dao Law. In essence, he was cultivating both the Dao of Pangu and the Dao of Hongjun derived from the Three Purities’ insights. Once perfected, attaining sainthood would no longer be a challenge!

While pondering this, the Master of Heaven finished his lecture, and Qingxu’s Upper Purity Immortal Dao reached 15%, already surpassing his Grand Purity by a significant margin.

“My disciples have not cultivated long enough to comprehend their own Dao; how could they discuss such matters?”

Only a Grand Supreme Golden Immortal may contemplate his personal path. Not even a renowned master can interfere in a disciple’s realization; at best, they may guide them to the level of a True Immortal of Taiyi. Beyond that, all depends on individual enlightenment—the master’s own Dao can serve only as reference.

“Second Senior Brother, I understand what you mean. If we cannot debate the Dao, perhaps we may contend in divine abilities and Daoist arts?” The Master of Heaven suggested, inwardly confident: his disciples were formidable in cultivation and possessed powerful treasures and divine arts. In a true contest, their chances of victory were considerable.

“What is your opinion, Eldest Brother?” the Primeval asked Taishang, reluctant to let his disciples compete, for the disciples of the Chan Sect numbered only fourteen, and aside from divine abilities, they had refined few spiritual treasures.

“There is no harm in a friendly contest among fellow disciples, so long as the exchange of divine arts is restrained and does not harm fraternal bonds.” Taishang pondered for a moment and agreed. As the eldest brother, if he refused, it would seem as though he feared the Master of Heaven, or believed his disciples inferior.

Seeing Taishang consent, the Master of Heaven was overjoyed—his purpose was to put the Primeval in his place.

With Taishang’s agreement, the Primeval could only acquiesce as well. Fortunately, he had the foresight to bestow spiritual treasures; otherwise, his disciples would be utterly shamed.

The second-generation disciples, upon hearing the words of the Three Purities, each harbored their own thoughts. In such a contest, there would inevitably be both victory and defeat. If they lost, it would reflect poorly on their master and greatly affect their future prospects.

“Jinguang, you shall take the first match.”

Through the Investiture System, Qingxu could see Jinguang Immortal’s details at a glance. What surprised him was that Jinguang’s karma was as high as 350—he had clearly committed many acts against heaven and reason!

“Taiyi, do not disgrace the reputation of our Chan Sect!”

The True Immortal Taiyi ranked among the top five in the Chan Sect in terms of cultivation and divine powers, and was a whole level stronger than Jinguang, already at the peak of the Nascent Soul realm.

“Disciple obeys the command!”

True Immortal Taiyi and Jinguang Immortal each came forward with a respectful bow.

“Junior Brother...” After some thought, Qingxu decided to use his twin-mind divine ability to transmit the information he had gathered to Taiyi. Among his brothers, his best relationships were with Yunzhongzi, Taiyi, and Guangchengzi.

Suddenly, receiving the information from Qingxu, Taiyi was startled and glanced at the Three Purities, but saw no sign that they had noticed. He was puzzled, not realizing that this was only possible because Qingxu now cultivated the Three Purities Dao Law—otherwise, how could he transmit information before the Saints without being detected?

“Eldest Brother’s divine abilities are truly vast!” Taiyi could not help but marvel inwardly at his own inferiority.

“Fellow Daoist, please!” As Taiyi was lost in thought, Jinguang Immortal saluted him.

“After you, fellow Daoist!”

After exchanging courtesies, the two each drew a treasure—one sword, one ring. Jinguang held a golden sword, clearly innate, resonating with the innate element of metal, exuding a sharp and murderous aura—its power was evident. Taiyi wielded the Universe Ring, which could expand or contract at will. Though a postnatal spiritual treasure, its might was formidable.

Whoosh!

The Universe Ring, following Taiyi’s incantation, shot towards Jinguang with the force to shatter mountains and sunder peaks—if this strike landed, even a mountain hundreds of feet tall would be reduced to dust.

“It seems the Universe Ring has already been refined by a quarter,” Qingxu mused.

Facing the incoming Universe Ring, Jinguang remained unflinching, swinging his golden sword to block its crushing force, his form immovable as a mountain. His Vajra strength was truly astounding.

Swish, swish, swish...

Sword-light scattered, golden sparks flying, forming a golden curtain that swept toward Taiyi.

“Well done!” Taiyi shouted, forming a spell seal. Amidst flashes of lightning, the Divine Thunder of Jade Purity thundered forth to meet the golden curtain.

The Three Purities Thunder Art was the true heritage of Pangu, powerful beyond measure. At its highest attainment, it could surpass all innate and postnatal spiritual treasures, reducing immortals, demons, gods, saints, buddhas, and monsters alike to dust and ashes, annihilating even their souls.

As a direct disciple of the Primeval, Taiyi had received the true transmission of the Divine Thunder of Jade Purity and had diligently cultivated it to a high level.

Rumble...

The auras of Jade Purity and Upper Purity burst forth, fierce winds howled, lightning and thunder clashed, Samadhi Fire and the essence of Geng Metal roared and mingled. Were it not for the divine abilities of the Three Purities, the Jade Void Palace itself would have been obliterated in an instant.
