Chapter 102: Targeting the Wrong Person
“This money is considered a loan from my family to you. When we have the means, we will definitely pay you back,” Xie Yun said earnestly. Life had not crushed this strong woman; the rekindled hope filled her with gratitude toward Zhang Ye.
“Yes, we will certainly repay you once we have the money,” Li Qianqian chimed in as well.
Zhang Ye smiled quietly but said nothing. He knew that if he gave the money directly, they wouldn’t accept it. Having the pretense of a loan made it easier for them to bear.
He did not accompany Li Qianqian to school but left ahead on his own. Riding his bicycle, Zhang Ye felt much lighter.
At the start of the new semester, the school, once calm like a still lake, was suddenly stirred into lively bustle. By the time Zhang Ye returned to school, it was already past one o’clock. On the way, he called Yuan Yuqing, subtly hinting about introducing a doctor.
The matter was complicated. Yuan Yuqing did know a few specialists, but she wasn’t close to them—only acquaintances at best. Moreover, they were of limited help concerning Li Aiguo’s back injury. The hospital had its own system, with different doctors responsible for various departments. She knew a surgical expert, but that was of limited assistance. She could only inquire if any doctor was available.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Ye immediately understood that Yuan Yuqing’s help was limited. After all, doctors wouldn’t go out of their way for someone they barely knew.
“Then who else?” Zhang Ye frowned as he walked along the school’s sports field.
Suddenly, his eyes brightened—he thought of someone.
Just then, a basketball, as if it had eyes, flew straight toward Zhang Ye’s head.
Thump!
Using his keen senses, Zhang Ye caught the ball with one hand. From the impact, he felt a strong force.
His brows knitted tightly.
“Hey, kid, throw the ball back!” shouted a tall young man on the basketball court.
The man was big, with a buzz cut and a fierce look, wearing a taunting smile. Beside him stood several others—tall and short, fat and thin—all folding their arms and watching with mocking eyes. Among them, Zhang Ye recognized one familiar face and instantly understood the situation.
“Oh? Was that you who threw it?” Zhang Ye asked with a smile, feigning nonchalance, as if it wasn’t him who was nearly hit.
“So what if it was me?” the big guy replied with a grin.
Thump!
Zhang Ye had honed his accuracy from years of slingshot practice. Standing before such a large man, he naturally didn’t miss. As soon as the man confirmed it, Zhang Ye acted swiftly, swinging the basketball hard and hitting him squarely in the face.
Perfect aim!
The man hadn’t anticipated such a direct response. The ball struck his forehead, leaving a bright red mark instantly.
The basketball bounced off, hitting the ground repeatedly in a rhythmic sequence.
“Damn it, fight!” the big guy roared angrily and charged forward. His size and the company of like-minded friends usually meant he was the one doing the bullying, never the victim.
Earlier, Li Yifan had warnedI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
